Amateur Roundup: World Mini Is Back; Tomahawk AQ Was a Wet Mess; Supercross Futures and More

Welcome back to the Vurb Roundup where each week or so I will bring you the latest in Amateur Motocross accompanied with content from social media.

Now that the dust has settled from the three-week run of Amateur Nationals, we are starting to get into the Loretta’s grind. Just last weekend there were five Area Qualifiers all over the country, including one of my home tracks, Tomahawk MX in Hedgesville, WV. No, I didn’t go, mainly because of the femur deal but also because it was WET on Saturday. Anyways, there is an Area Qualifier in every single region except for the Northwest this weekend. That means a ton of racing is happening all across the country. There is no Supercross this weekend, so take the extra time you now have to go your local track and watch the next generation. You won’t even have to stress about PulpMX Fantasy this weekend like I do. Just for the record, I am better than Slaw Dog and maybe the rest of the Vurbmoto staff. (Slaw Note: There is no evidence to back this claim up.)

World Mini is BACK

Less than a week from now, WORLD MINI IS BACK. The return of World Mini takes place April 6-9 at Mesquite MX Park in Mesquite, Nevada. It is going to have everything from world class amateur racing to STACYC racing, Amped demos, Greenger demos and more. World Mini has been missing from our lives since 2014, but thanks to Wes Williams and the boys, we are bringing it back. If you’re on the fence about going still, Slaw Dog gave us a solid list of 10 Reasons to Come to World Mini. For those of you coming, we will see you there! Can someone tell Slaw Dog my plane ticket got lost in the mail?

Tomahawk MX Had the Best Area Qualifier Trophies

Look, I might be biased here, but Tomahawk had the coolest trophies I have seen for a while. I won’t lie, trophies have gotten kind of lame at a lot of races these days. That is not true for every race, especially any of the Vurbmoto races, but I have seen a number of the same plaques over and over again at local races and I enjoyed seeing a little bit of personality in the trophy department at Tomahawk last weekend. The track is called Tomahawk MX and they used the shape of a tomahawk for the trophy. It can be as simple as that to make a better trophy.

While we are on the topic, remember when I said it was WET at Tomahawk last weekend? Well, take a look for yourself. My buddy Cody Darr (@co_darr327) captured this quick sequence of Domanic Stallings (@domanicstallings66).

Looking Ahead to Glendale

Alongside the Road to Loretta’s, we have two rounds of Supercross Futures left for the year. The first of two in Glendale, Arizona April 8 and the final round at East Rutherford April 22. I have not seen a pre-entry list for the race just yet, but I believe we will see a few familiar faces. Daxton Bennick, Julien Beaumer,  and Preston Boespflug have all confirmed they will be in attendance via their social media platforms. Keep an eye out for the entry list within the next week.

Arenacross Finale

Unless you have been living under a rock, you have likely seen videos from the AMA Arenacross Championship. Everything from Kyle Peters’ domination to crashes and even fights. If you want to check out coverage from the Areancross season, head over to the @ArenacrossUSA on Instagram. The Arenacross season will wrap up this Friday in Lexington, Kentucky, and I look forward to checking it out.
