AMA Reviews Arlington Supercross Incidents, Rules No Violations in 250 and 450 Mains

The American Motorcyclist Association (AMA) has ruled on two separate incidents Saturday at the Arlington round of Monster Energy AMA Supercross.

One incident occurred in the 250SX East Division main event. Following a crash from Derek Kelley, the red lights were turned on the small double before the finish line as race leader Jo Shimoda and second place Pierce Brown came through. Shimoda did not jump the double nor the finish line jump while Brown jumped both. This helped Brown get around Shimoda for the lead, which he didn’t relinquish en route to the his first career 250SX win over Shimoda.

In the post-race media scrum, Honda HRC Progressive team manager Lars Lindstrom did not hold back, saying: “Just go by the rulebook. I mean, we’ve definitely been penalized for red cross flags more than any other team. And I’ve always accepted that when the red flags flashing right before the finish line. Jo did the right thing, and he rolled. And then I feel like, you know, now is the time for them to stand by the rulebook and do the right penalty, which is loss of a position for the position gained, and then five championship points.”

Well, the AMA has reviewed the evidence and determined that no infraction occurred. Here is the report from SMX Media.

250 Main Event: Lead in warning light and finish line red lights were reviewed. No violation was determined.

Kellen Brauer shared a photo of Pierce on the lap, and yeah, it certainly looks like he jumps on red, so not quite sure how the AMA determined no penalty.

The second incident happened in the 450SX main event. Honda HRC’s Hunter Lawrence was leading when a Red Cross flag came out over the finish line. He rolled, but Eli Tomac, Ken Roczen, and Cooper Webb all appeared to have jumped the finish with the flag waving.

Again, Lindstrom weighed in post-race:

“That one is clear cut, I don’t see how there’s any question on that one, they’re gonna lose points. That definitely helps us, it’s [the penalty is] five points, I think Hunter’s lead goes from four points to nine points. I gotta check on that one but I can’t see that one being in question.”

Similar to the 250SX main, the AMA has determined that no rules violation occurred:

450 Main Event: Red light/red cross flag incident involving the leaders at the finish line jump was reviewed. No violation was determined.

Yeah, not sure what else to say here.
