Red Bull KTM announced on Tuesday that Aaron Plessinger will miss round 8 of the Pro Motocross Championship this Saturday at Washougal due to an illness.
The last two weekends, Plessinger has fought an illness that has forced him to withdraw from the second moto in consecutive rounds.
Following a sixth in the first moto at RedBud, Plessinger was unable to line up for the second moto and took to his personal Instagram last week to provide an update.
“I’ve been dealing with a little bit of a sickness I kept telling myself wasn’t happening,” Plessinger said in the video. “Finally caught up to me”
Plessinger was in action to begin the day at round 7 at Spring Creek, qualifying fourth overall and running up front early in the first 450 moto. Unfortunately, a depleted Plessinger would ultimately be forced to retire from the race and elected to withdraw from Moto 2.
“Aaron was up there, but definitely had some issues and he had to retire, so we will look into this and find out what we can do to help him,” said Red Bull KTM team manager Ian Harrison in a statement.
Per the team, AP is out for this weekend “in order to seek further medical advice while prioritizing his health and fitness.”
Ian Harrison, Red Bull KTM Factory Racing Team Manager: “The whole Red Bull KTM Factory Racing Team is fully behind Aaron Plessinger, everyone’s favorite Cowboy. Our priority right now is making sure he receives the best medical advice and care possible. Aaron came into RedBud not at 100 percent, but he gave it his all and continued to push through to line up at Millville. Unfortunately, he felt the effects of his illness early on and, despite fighting hard in the first moto, was completely depleted and unable to recover for the second. By sitting out Washougal and heading into the break, it gives him a few weeks to focus on figuring out exactly what’s going on with his health. Most importantly, it allows him time to gain peace of mind and make the best decision on when he’s ready to return to racing.”
Plessinger opened his Pro Motocross campaign with two podiums across the opening three rounds, with a season-high result of second overall coming in Round 2 at Hangtown.
Pro Motocross has two weekends off between Washougal and Round 9 at Ironman Raceway on August 9,
