Is TwoTwo Motorsports Coming Back? Chad Reed Says It Could Happen

Is Chad Reed starting a team again? And could Michael Jordan be involved? Apparently, both are on the table.

Speaking to the media last weekend ahead of the opening round of the Australian Supercross Championship, Reed confirmed that the rumors surrounding a potential return of TwoTwo Motorsports are true. Yes, he’s looking at bringing the team back. Yes, he’s looking for a partner. And yes, the Michael Jordan rumors have some truth behind them.

“Truth of the matter is, you know, I’ve made massive changes in my life. Moved back to Florida, purchased 120 acres,” Reed said. “My kids are chasing the dream, and I don’t always… You know, if I—if my kid was to make it like he wants to, I don’t know that there’s a team that I would put him on, truthfully speaking.

“So at that point, you’re kinda like, ‘Well, let’s do our own team again,’ you know? So for me, it would be just awesome to run TwoTwo Motorsports again.

“Is there truth to the Michael Jordans and a partner like that? One hundred percent. You know, those conversations are happening behind closed doors.

“I won’t do it alone. It will be a partner of some caliber of that. Will it be Michael? I don’t know that answer yet. So I think it’s cool. Really cool, actually. I’m excited.”

Reed launched TwoTwo Motorsports in 2011 after leaving Monster Energy Kawasaki, and the program went on to become one of the most successful privateer efforts of its era. Reed initially raced Hondas, with the team eventually receiving support from American Honda, before transitioning to Kawasakis. TwoTwo Motorsports ultimately shut down in 2015.

So, is TwoTwo Motorsports officially coming back? Not yet. But Reed clearly wants it to happen, conversations with potential partners are taking place, and one of the names involved in those conversations could be one of the biggest names in sports.
