Vintage Vibes: RedBud 2009 Redux ft Dungey / Weimer / Reed

I love RedBud. You love RedBud. Your mom loves RedBud. Ask me how I know she does…

I could have picked any RedBud video in the vurbmoto vault. We have 69 million of them. How did I settle on this one? Well, the year was 2009, I had just graduated high school and I was riding so many laps on my dirt bike that I literally created the shred tours.

I loved that entire summer of motocross. When James Stewart went to Supercross only for that year and Chad Reed signed with Suzuki I wasn’t completely sold on the fact that Reedy would walk to the title. That was mistake number one. Sure, it was no walk in the park for him, but we had some guys step up to challenge. Between a one-two punch from Team Honda’s Andrew Short and Ivan Tedesco, emerging 450 rookies Tommy Hahn, Josh Grant, and Justin Brayton, fill-in riders Matt Goerke and Ricky Dietrich, and an almost Southwick win for then 67 year old John Dowd…this series had it all.

Don’t forget that this 450 championship saw Ryan Villopoto and Mike Alessi fall victim to injuries early. This was the year of the infamous night race at Thunder Valley where Grant took out an already injured Alessi and then Tedesco went on to a 1-1 finish and his only 450 National overall victory.

The 250 class that season was an epic battle between Ryan Dungey and Christophe Pourcel. Dungey had an epic front flip crash at RedBud on the first lap of second moto after swapping 1-8, 8-1 Moto scores with Pourcel. Jake Weimer swooped in to take the overall win. In the 450 class, Grant put on a clinic in the second moto and won the overall with 2-1 scores.

This was the season that Chili Dog put an elite team together to film all summer for the Racer X Motocross Shows. They would produce a ton of content and with the extra footage they would put together these “Redux” videos. This video was produced by the super team of Chili Dog, some dude from Europe named Dave, Stew Dog, and the world famous Ryan Walters. An entire summer packed into the infamous Mighty Whitey motorhome with a bunch of dudes eating fast food and Easy Mac.
