Spring Nationals have come to an end. While we saw a lot of familiar faces on top of the box the last few weeks, some riders have put themselves into the spotlight and turned heads. The last two weeks, thousands of amateur riders from across the world traveled to Texas to compete in two of the biggest amateur motocross events of the year: The JS7 Spring Championship at Freestone and Spring A Ding Ding at Oak Hill. While many have the goal and ambition to be on the top step, only a few rise to the occasion.
Kane Bollasina
I’ve been telling everyone to watch out for this kid. If you didn’t listen maybe these past two weeks will catch your attention. Bollasina moved up to the 125 class this year and has been telling me how much he wants to win. He wants to earn a spot on a team and is looking to prove it to everyone. Starting at JS7, Kane would bring home a championship in Schoolboy 1 with 2-1 finishes and would just miss out on a second championship in 125 (12-17) by 1 point. This class was absolutely stacked, and Kane showed he is someone to be on the lookout for.
Kane would travel to Spring A Ding Ding where he looked to carry his momentum into the week. Bollasina would show his grit in the 125 JR (12-17) class. After a 7th place finish in his first moto, Kane put his head down and dug deep to take home a win in the second moto, which would be enough to put him on the top step.
Bollasina would also compete in the Schoolboy 2 class and against some of the heavy hitters in the 250B class on his 125. This is without a doubt his most impressive ride in the two-week span, as he would go for a 3-8 for a 6th overall competing against 250F’s. Hats off to Kane for a killer two weeks.
Gauge Brown

With some help from the all new Vurbmoto Prospect App, you can see how big of a ripper this kid is. Over the last two weeks I think he’s raced like 25 classes and done thousands of laps. While those numbers might be just a hair boosted, this dude has ridden his ass off the last two weeks. Brown rode four classes at The JS7 Spring Championship and was a top dog in each of those. Gauge would finish his week there with some killer results:
1st – Mini SR 1 (12-14)
2nd – 85cc (1-14) & Mini SR 2 (13-16)
3rd – Supermini 2 (13-16)
7th – Supermini 1 (12-15)
Yeah, that’s a pretty good week if you ask me. Riding four classes is wild to me and I thought maybe he would tune it down a little and focus on two or maybe three classes for Spring A Ding Ding. Well, I was wrong, and he came back for another four classes and would absolutely crush it again. I mean look at these results:
1st – 85cc Open
2nd – Mini SR 2 (13-16)
3rd – Supermini 1 (12-15)
4th – Mini SR 1 (12-14)
6th – Supermini 2 (13-16)
Hats off to Gauge and his crew for hammering down the last two weeks and putting up some killer results, which puts him at the top ranked amateur rider in the country on the Vurbmoto Prospect app.
Jett Rau
Jett’s Instagram name is Jett Speed Rau and he has that name for a reason. This little dude is unreal and so fun to watch. Jett absolutely dominated the JS7 Spring Championship in his 65 classes.
He only lost 1 of his 6 motos in his 65 classes. There were a couple races I tuned into where his lead was over a minute—a whole freaking minute. After running through the competition at JS7, Jett Speed would head up to the Ding to keep the train rolling.
Jett didn’t let off the gas and would continue his dominance in the 65cc (7-9) classes, winning all 4 of his motos in those age groups. He would put up a 3-16 in the 65 open for a 11th overall as well.
Rau is also riding 85 classes at these championships where he would finish 11th overall at JS7 and 8th overall at Spring A Ding Ding. Obviously, his focus will be 65cc classes come Loretta’s and at his pace it will be exciting to see who can step up to the plate to dethrone him.
Jesse Furtado
Jesse moved up to the B class and I was not sure what to expect from him. He rode the 125 and Schoolboy 1 class last year and sometimes it can take a while for someone to make that adjustment from the 125 to the 250. Well, this doesn’t seem to have slowed him down and in fact I think it was the best move for him. This dude flat out rips.
With two 6th place finishes at JS7, his best riding came out of the 450B class, where he had a podium spot on lock until I believe a bike failure would result in a DNF. His riding style and his aggressiveness moving through the pack was just flat out awesome to watch.
Furtardo would regroup and come out even faster at Spring A Ding Ding, as he landed on the podium in two motos and just missed out on some overall podiums in two very stacked classes. With a 4th overall in Schoolboy 2 and 450B, Jesse wasn’t far off from another top 5 overall in 250B where he finished 6th. I think this kid is a sleeper in this class and is riding like he has a lot to prove.
