Some MXGP silly season news dropped this morning. And no, it wasn’t Tim Gajser to Yamaha or Jeffrey Herlings to Honda. But, it does involve Yamaha Motor Europe.
In a press release the team announced they are parting ways with Calvin Vlaanderen after five seasons together.
The South African joined the Yamaha family in 2020 and immediately raced the MXGP Class. After three years on privateer efforts with Yamaha, he earned a well-deserved seat on the Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MXGP team for the 2024 and 2025 campaigns.
In his final year with the team, Vlaanderen finished sixth in the MXGP championship with three overall podium finishes.
Alexandre Kowalski Yamaha Motor Europe Off-Road Racing Manager
“On behalf of everyone at Yamaha Motor Europe, I would like to thank Calvin for his dedication, professionalism, and the many incredible moments we’ve shared throughout the past five years. Aside from his undeniable ability on a motorcycle, he is a great example of a top athlete – very humble, respectful and polite. It has been a genuine pleasure working with him. We wish him every success in the next chapter of his career.”
It is expected that Vlaanderen will sign with Ducati for next year.
