When Tragedy Strikes, This Sport’s Family Rallies Like No Other | Ways to Support Jerry Robin’s Recovery

This sport can beat you down. The cost. The travel. The injuries. At times, the stress and anxiety of it all can feel suffocating. Then, you throw a leg over the bike, crack the throttle and it all seems to go away. With the snap of a finger, your mood changes. The pressure of life temporarily fades into the background. For that brief window of time, it’s just you, the machine, and the track. Nothing else matters.

But the risk is always there—quiet, ever-present, and undeniable. This is a dangerous sport. Riders know that. They’ve accepted it. And yet, we push on. Because it’s hard to replace the pure adrenaline rush you get when you spin some laps with the boys. You try with other things—snowboarding, mountain biking—but its not the same.

I don’t know what to say about Jerry Robin’s injury sustained over the weekend at the East Rutherford round of Monster Energy AMA Supercross. We’ve seen crashes 100 times worse, and the rider bounces right back up. Jerry’s didn’t seem bad. (We have chosen not to show the video.) It was. And now Jerry, his wife and his family are facing a battle that no rider and family ever wants to fight. It’s the kind of situation that shakes you—reminds you just how fragile this pursuit really is.

There are no perfect words for moments like this. Only hope. Only support.

Time and again, when tragedy strikes, this sport’s family rallies like no other. Motocross is more than a sport, it’s a brotherhood. Because at the end of the day, we all know the inherit risks and it’s that bond that ties us all together. In just a matter of days, Road 2 Recovery launched a campaign to support Jerry, and by Wednesday afternoon, donations had already exceeded $100,000. You can donate here.

Riders have already jumped on board as well. Jerry’s good friend Justin Starling has launched a raffle with 100% of donations going to Jerry.

You can purchase shirts for Starling’s raffle here.

In addition, Kyle Chisholm is entering the PulpMX Privateer Challenge next Friday in Denver with all his earnings going to Jerry.

You can donate to the cause here.

Scott Plessinger, Aaron’s dad, is hosting a 50-50 drawing this weekend at Chillitown with all proceeds going to Jerry.

That’s what defines this sport—not just the competition on the track, but the compassion off it. Motocross can break your body, but the community will never let your spirit fall alone.
