Vurbmoto Power Rankings Heading into Indy

Welcome to the 2023 Slaw/VurbWes/Troy Dog Combined 250/450 Top Ten Power Rankings! Slaw, Wes, and Troy each have created their own list of who they believe carry the most power in the sport. They each have created their own categories and have weighted these people accordingly, whether its speed, following, SX skills, you name it.

Each week these rankings will be updated so that you guys can argue about how wrong they are in the comment section! Feel free to tell us if we’re right/wrong/or completely dumb.

Troy Dog’s Rankings

Troy Dog: It’s my favorite week of the year and you’ll learn about this more tomorrow in Troy Dog’s Shack, but it’s my hometown race! I’ll be at Indy as a very renowned journalist and getting the scoops for you. I’ll also be working on a side project with the HEP Suzuki/Twisted Tea guys, which is the team that signed ME to a lifetime contract about three years ago. Dustin Pipes and team get the nod for the top spot every week and especially this week.

Eli Tomac gets snubbed for my top spot even after passing Ricky Carmichael in the all-time wins department and getting his 87th win at Daytona. Look, I’m sorry Tomac fans, but free Twisted Tea and Chipotle at the HEP truck is a bigger dub in my opinion.

Cooper Webb and Chase Sexton have been fighting hard to beat the Tomac Train this season and Coop almost did it at Daytona. It’ll be interesting to see how they both respond on a tight, rutty, and technical Indy track.

It’s Hunter Lawrence’s year. He’s hungry and he doesn’t care who you are. He’s coming for that top spot and if you’re in the way…well get out of the way.

Barcia was the fastest rider on the track at a certain point during the main event at Daytona. He had a few racing incidents with Sexton that put him off of the track and on the ground, but he looked strong. Barcia is also very good at Indy, so I think we could see a podium out of him this weekend.

The 17-year-old rookie, who is not riding like a 17-year-old rookie, Haiden Deegan got his first podium at Daytona. He did it by tracking down and passing two-time outdoor champion Jeremy Martin too! This kid’s future’s so bright that I even need sunglasses to watch him ride.

Dean Wilson isn’t getting enough credit for racing this season. He spent the majority of last season recovering from a huge hole from a footpeg on his backside. That’s insane. He doesn’t even have to be racing anymore. He’s made lots of money, his wife just gave birth to their first child, and he’s in the prime of his life. He finished a season’s best 11th at Daytona and he’s gotten podiums at Indy before. Let’s keep the good vibes flowing.

No, this isn’t a typo. My old arch-nemesis Slaw Dog and I had an incredible meeting on Monday and I decided to be the bigger man and squashed our beef. We may even become friends. Life is too short to be so mean to one another in this Vurbmoto family. He’s a great employee and always comes through no matter what time of day it is. I’m thankful for my new friend Slaw.

Slaw’s Rankings

Slaw: I will bullet point my thoughts so it is easier to read. Troy Dog has a hard time reading, so I’m making it easy for him to see how much better my rankings are.

  • I love amateur moto. You love amateur moto. And the JS7 Spring Championship at Freestone is kicking off this week. You know where to stay tuned for coverage. Yep, this wonderful site and social channels.
  • We are less than a month away from the return of World Mini which will feature an MXGP format. Go sign up now so we can continue to pay Troy to write terrible (whoops, we are friends now) wonderful blogs.
  • James Stewart in the booth. That is all.
  • Tomac speaks for itself.
  • So does Paul Webb.
  • So does Hunter Lawrence.
  • I’ve been telling yall this kid is legit. His stamina down the stretch has impressed me the most.
  • Sexton probably should be leading the points. Just sayin.
  • Man, Anstie is NOT getting enough credit for his season. Don’t worry, Max, Slaw is here for you.
  • Dark Side DID NOT QUIT.

Slaw note: VurbWes has been on the road for like 6 or 10 days and is probably cranky and Slaw did not want to ask for his Rankings. So yeah, no VurbWes this week.
