Too Long; Didn’t Read: Recap from Championship Saturday at Loretta’s

Lucky for all of you out in internet land, Troy, the author of this feature all week, is off today. Apparently, the self-proclaimed CEO can’t be asked to work on the weekend. That leaves the real keyboard pros to close things out on championship Saturday. Myself, fire blogger extraordinaire, will be working alongside Jeff Simpson to ensure you’re up to date on all the happenings from the final day of Loretta Lynn’s.

Junior 25+
What a better way to start championship Saturday than with Mike Alessi doing Mike Alessi things. He’s probably packed 10k gates in his day. But this morning, he decided to back his bike into the gate and proceed to pop the clutch to help pack his spot. This, as you know, is illegal and he was docked immediately, forcing him to take the last gate pick. Lucky for him, he’s also the best starter in the history of the sport and was able to get off the gate behind Heath Harrison in second.

Harrison led early and looked solid doing it, but a blown-out wheel ruined his chances of a moto win, moving Alessi (2-2 moto scores) into the lead with Cole Martinez (1-1 moto scores) into third, putting them in a tie with 5pts each. Jacob Baumert ran second and kept things honest until a bobble allowed Martinez to make the move into title position, locking up the gold with 1-1-2 moto scores.

Shout out to Jacob Baumert, who was able to regroup after a bobble dropped him into fourth and outside of an overall podium finish to mount a charge towards the end of the moto to edge out Luke Vonlinger for third overall.

Kayden Palmer vs. Gage Stine. College (18-24) Battle Royale.
It was a winner take all duel. As Gage Stine and Kayden Palmer came in 1-2 and 2-1 scores. It didn’t take long after the gate dropped for the duo to find each other and start working their way to the front. They swapped the title for a few corners but it would be Gage Stine taking the W. Palmer put on a charge to pass into 2nd on the last couple of laps to go out on a highnote.

The Cream Rises In Schoolboy 1 (12-17) B/C
We had a 3-way tie coming in with Casey Cochran, Logan Best and Noah Stevens all with 4 points! Holy smokes, once again a winner take all situation up front. Stevens would grab the holes hot but Logan Best made a move within the first lap leaving Stevens to fight off Cochran. Stevens would get crossrutted and tipped over in a corner, while getting up Cochran ran into him and tipped over putting Cochran back a few spots and out of title contention.

UNTIL Logan Best went down in the left hander coming out of the beach handing the title back over to Noah Stevens. Casey Cochran wasn’t having any of that noise and would mount an incredible charge and make the pass on Stevens in Storyland and check out for the moto win and title. 2 for 2 here at the Ranch for Cochran.

Cole Martinez Does It Again.
Mitchell Harrison holeshots as he has done all dang week but Cole Martinez would make his way around and check out for most of the moto. Ryder D didn’t get the start he was looking for and was a non factor in the moto.  Hymas would make his way into 3rd. The swarm of bees that was Braswell, Towers, Linville and Hawkins were coming.

Braswell made his way into 2nd and putting on a charge with 10min to go. It wouldn’t be enough as Cole Martinez would be out of reach. From there everyone just settled into their spots and held on for dear life until the end. What a story Cole Martinez and Caden Braswell have been this week. Love to see it.
