Tony Lorusso, at 52 Years of Age, Is Trying to Qualify For Southwick This Weekend

When I’m 52, I want to be sipping Mai Tai’s in the Maldives or playing a member/guest with the boys at the local muni. Among other things I would never sign up for at the young age of 52 (!!!) would be 30+2 at the F’ing Wick.

The above, among other reasons, is why Tony Lorusso is much more of a man than me. This weekend at the Southwick National, Lorusso is going to try and qualify for the motos in the 250 Class at, yes, you guessed it, 52 years of age.

For those unfamiliar with Mr. Lorusso, he is an NESC legend. Per the Racer X Vault, he first raced at Southwick in 1990 and finished 16th overall. The last time he raced it was 2012, where he finished 17th overall. Yes, that is a LONG time between races. Some would call it legendary.

If Lorusso, who hails from Brockton, Massachusetts, makes the motos this weekend he would obviously become the oldest rider in history to make the motos. The next oldest (I’m pretty sure) is John Dowd, who qualified for Southwick in 2013 when he was 43.

This is an amazing feat in moto history. Oh, and he goes off in B practice, which we all know is massive at the Wick.

Slaw’s Thoughts:

He makes the motos and they build a statue of him at the Wick.
