It had been 59 long days since we last saw Cole Davies on a motorcycle. But as seen on Star Yamaha Instagram page on Tuesday, the rookie from New Zealand is officially back on the bike for the first time back since a brutal crash at the season finale of the Monster Energy AMA Supercross Championship on May 10 in Salt Lake City.
“Man, I’ve missed this,” he said in the update. “It’s been a tough few months since Salt Lake, and the whole injury process was something pretty foreign to me. I watched the boys ride once during that time, and I won’t lie… it sucked. The team has been unreal through it all, and so have all the people who reached out to show support. Today’s the day I’ve been waiting for. I’m back on the bike and all in!”
If you recall, Davies was involved in a frightening crash in qualifying at Salt Lake City with Jordon Smith when Davies, who was leading the qualifying session, made a mistake in a rhythm section and was rolling the track, and Smith, who was on a fast lap, landed on him.
Initially, the crash looked like it might sideline Davies for the rest of 2025, but it was later determined at the hospital that he sustained a broken arm and nose in the accident.
“Devastating way to end the supercross season but looking at the positives it’s been it’s been one hell of a rookie season stoked with how it’s went thank you to everyone that has helped me and the whole Monster Energy Star Racing Yamaha team,” he said at the time.
“As of my condition right now I have a broken arm and a broken nose. Definitely could have been a lot worse grateful to come away somewhat okay, that was a very gnarly crash. Thank you to the whole Alpinestars medical crew for taking good care of me. I have surgery tomorrow morning. I’ll be back better and stronger everyone”
While a return date has yet to be announced by the team, there is hope that Davies can return for the final few rounds of Pro Motocross and gather more points toward the SuperMotocross Playoffs in September. Davies currently sits 14th in the 250SMX SuperMotocross World Championship qualifying standings, in a transfer spot (top 20 is guaranteed, 21 through 30 has to race the LCQ at all three SMX rounds).
The young New Zealander had a fantastic rookie SX season, collecting two race wins and finishing third in 250SX West points despite not racing the finale. He was awarded the AMA Rookie of the Year honors following the season.
