A new trend is developing inside the Monster Energy AMA Supercross paddock. Privateers are running their own teams.
This has been going on for a while. I remember Ronnie Stewart doing something similar a few years back. Logan Karnow, Justin Starling and Kevin Moranz are the latest privateers trying this model and it seems to be working. Instead of signing with a satellite team that would require you to use certain parts, privateers have found a way to fund their own team and use parts they prefer.
In 2024, Moranz started his own team, KMR Racing, for Supercross. And in just two short years, he’s worked up to a full semi and added a second rider, which he announced this week.
After spending the last few years with Rock River Yamaha, Grant Harlan is making the move over the KMR squad where he and Moranz will race KTM SXF 450s.
Following a down year in 2025, Harlan is looking to return to his 2024 form during which he finished 15th overall in 450 Pro Motocross.
Hopefully we see more of this. Great for Kevin and company.
