Honda HRC Progressive announced on Wednesday that Jo Shimoda will miss the remainder of the Monster Energy AMA Supercross Championship due to an leg injury sustained in a heat race crash in St. Louis last Saturday.
In the 250SX East Division heat race, Phoenix Honda’s Evan Ferry went down and Shimoda was forced to roll the section and was clipped by Luke Clout in the lower part of his leg and immediately went to the ground. The race was red flagged as the Alpinestars Mobile Medical Unit took Shimoda off the track on a medical cart.
Shimoda went directly to the Alpinestars medical unit and an initial assessment indicated no bone fractures. But after further testing this week it was determined that he sustained a small fracture of his left fibula.
Per the team, the injury will not require surgery. However, Shimoda will have to wear an orthopedic boot for 2-3 weeks.
“Update, sorry for the inconvenience I had my ankle scanned yesterday unfortunately I will miss remainder of supercross series but the good news is that luckily it’s not severe that me and my team thought its smart to sit out and utilize this time to prepare fully for outdoor,” Shimoda wrote on social media. “Thank you guys for the support, again we are going to continue to grow.”
“Jo is a resilient competitor, and we’re confident he’ll make a full recovery,” said Brandon Wilson, Manager of Racing & Experiential at American Honda. “We fully expect him to be a contender for the 250 AMA Pro Motocross crown, and to fight hard in defense of his SuperMotocross Championship. Our team will provide all the support he needs during his rehab to ensure he’s ready to compete at the highest level.”
After sustaining a broken neck this off-season, the 2025 SMX World Champion returned for the 250SX East Division opener and began his season with three podiums in five rounds before his latest injury.
Shimoda is expected to return for the Pro Motocross opener at Fox Raceway on May 30.
The teams other 250 rider, Chance Hymas, is also out for the remainder of Supercross as he recovers from a shoulder injury. The team announced after St. Louis that he recently returned to riding, as he trains in Florida at The Dog Pound in preparation for the approaching Pro Motocross season.
