Knee Injury to Sideline Cooper Webb for Remainder of Pro Motocross

The Monster Energy/Yamaha team confirmed on Wednesday that reigning Monster Energy AMA Supercross Champion Cooper Webb will miss the remainder of the Pro Motocross season due to a knee injury sustained in qualifying at round 6 at RedBud last Saturday.

Per the team announcement, Webb will undergo a minor procedure to have his knee cleaned up and his focus is on returning to full fitness for the opening SuperMotocross Playoff round in Charlotte on September 6.

In a statement, Webb said he hopes to be back riding in a month.

“I’m extremely bummed that I’ll be missing the upcoming rounds of Pro Motocross,” he said. “I had a personal goal to make all 31 rounds this season and I’m disappointed to surrender the SMX championship lead this way. On the positive side, it’s a quick fix and recovery. I’ll get a small procedure done on Monday and should be back on the bike in around a month so that we can prepare for the opening playoff round in Charlotte.”

While Webb is out of contention in the Pro Motocross Championship, missing the remaining rounds will affect his status for the upcoming SuperMotocross Playoffs. Currently, Webb sits first, but teammate Justin Cooper is only 14 points back. Aaron Plessinger is currently third in the standings, 57 back of Webb.
