Honda HRC Progressive’s Jo Shimoda will undergo an MRI this week to further examine his lower left leg after he was landed on in his heat race at the East/West Showdown in St. Louis on Saturday.
In the 250SX East Division heat race, Phoenix Honda’s Evan Ferry went down and Shimoda was forced to roll the section and was clipped by Luke Clout in the lower part of his leg and immediately went to the ground. The race was red flagged as the Alpinestars Mobile Medical Unit took Shimoda off the track on a medical cart.
Shimoda went directly to the Alpinestars medical unit and the team announced on Monday that an initial assessment indicated no bone fractures and that he will undergo further evaluation this week.
“Not much to say about my weekend—I wasn’t able to finish a lap in the heat race,” Shimoda said. “I was trying to avoid a rider crashing in front of me and ended up getting landed on. Alpinestars medical told me that there were no broken bones, but possible ligament damage. We’ll know more when I get an MRI.”
“Jo never got a chance to show what he had, and we’re doing everything we can to help him get back to being on the bike,” said team manager Lars Lindstrom. “Initially, it looked really serious, but now I’m more hopeful that it’s only a minor setback. Hopefully, we’ll know more after an MRI, but weight on the foot seems to be okay.”
After scoring zero points in St. Louis, Shimoda now finds himself fourth in points, 36 back of leader Cole Davies.
