It is–checks calendar–April and we may already be crowning a champion in Monster Energy AMA Supercross in St. Louis this weekend.
Monster Energy/Yamaha Star Racing’s Haiden Deegan is on the verge of a second straight 250SX West Division title as he enters the second 250SX East/West Showdown this Saturday with an astonishing 42 point lead in the championship over teammate Max Anstie.
Following St. Louis, there are only two West Division rounds remaining–Denver and the East/West Showdown at the season finale in Salt Lake City–meaning there are only 50 possible points available after this weekend.
With Anstie 42 back and third place Levi Kitchen 47 back, it is very possible Deegan clinches on Saturday.
If Deegan wins he would need a fifth or worse finish from Anstie, which considering its an East/West Showdown, could benefit the points leader. Anstie has five finishes outside the top-5 this year and finished seventh at the first East/West Showdown in Birmingham in March.
A win from Deegan would eliminate Kitchen and the rest of the field no matter where they finish.
With Deegan set to move to the 450 Class for Pro Motocross, putting a wrap on this title would only prove beneficial as he prepares for the next chapter in his highly successful career.
