Here’s The Thing: Motocross is a Fashion Show

This article is about one thing. One thing we miss, one thing we love, one thing that sticks out in the minds of motocross fans or at the first least, this one.

Here’s the thing: you’re either a gearhead or you’re not and I’m not talking about knowing your way around a toolbox. I’m talking about the one guy (or gal) if your group who is all about the gear. It doesn’t matter if it’s Saturday practice or championship weekend, they come kitted, fitted and fresh.

Flip through enough magazines or social posts and your own collection is always going to feel like it’s a bit lacking. Especially nowadays where the “Limited Edition” has replaced the annual iconic gear ad in your favourite print publication. Moto gear companies have adopted the manufactured scarcity approach to releasing gear is smaller quantities and a well-placed “LE” is just enough to get the fashion forward motocrosser to head to their local dealer to get their hands on the new hot look.

The current approach to releasing new motocross gear is great for those “gotta have it” gals and guys who show up to a practice day with two different helmets to go with their other three sets of gear. If it doesn’t match or if the colours or styles clash, that is simply unacceptable. I’ve put too much thought into the look “Look Pro Go Slow” approach but that’s what works for me. I can’t ride good unless I look good and that’s a fact.

The fashion of motocross is such as interesting subject to jump into because there as many different looks out there as there is riding styles. Everyone is a little bit different, but we all keep the graphic designers busy. I would love to hear about a time there was some motocross gear that you absolutely had to have.

Some members of the motocross community could not care less about having the newest threads. I will never understand those financially responsible individuals. For me, having your kit looking just right is that little bit of nice spice you can add to the whole experience of riding a motorcycle. Further evidence to me that falling in love with motocross is more than just the enjoyment of shredding on two wheels. It’s the sights, the sounds, the gear and the people to ride with. We’ll get more into that next week.

Thanks for giving this a read. It’s probably time for a new set of boots for you and the new Fox Racing boots now come in half sizes.
