This 2024 rookie class is deep for the Pro Motocross Championship. Here are five of them who made some progress at the Hangtown National.
Julien Beaumer – Red Bull KTM
Moto 1 – 9th
Moto 2 – 9th
Overall – 9th
Grade – B+
Beaumer had another solid weekend as he was able to crack into the top ten and finish 9th overall. Julien’s starts were on point this weekend and we all know how important a good start is at this level. He was able to almost pull the holeshot in the first Moto and it was fun to see him push Kitchen and a few other top guys. Juju seems to be getting used to his outdoor setup at a rapid pace and I think we will see him get a podium in a Moto very soon.
Daxton Bennick – Monster Energy Star Racing Yamaha
Moto 1 – 11th
Moto 2 – 15th
Overall – 12th
Grade – C+
A much better ride this weekend for Dax as he was able to move up towards that top ten spot. Bennick had a good start in Moto 1, would trickle back to around 18th-20th and then charge back to the front and get up to 11th. In Moto 2, Bennick started towards the back of the pack and charged all the way from 28th to 15th. Dax is an east coast kid and with the series starting to head east this week, it could flip the switch for him. Good starts and being back on Midwest/Eastern dirt could propel Bennick back into the top ten where he belongs.
Mark Fineis – Muc Off/FXR/ClubMX Yamaha
Moto 1 – 33rd
Moto 2 – 13th
Overall – 17th
Grade – B
Mark, yet again, had another impressive ride to me. He had a mid pack start in Moto 1 but was charging through the pack moving all the way up into the top 15 before an unfortunate mechanical issue would end his first Moto. Fineis did not let this faze him as he came back out for Moto 2 with a horrible gate pick. He was able to get a decent start and would push the whole Moto to end up 13th. I think this ride showed that Mark is calm and confident in his team after the mechanical issue. Fineis was able to look past the issue, put his head down, and come out swinging moto 2. Mark is a Midwest guy, so I’m sure he is excited for the next few weeks as we head back to familiar dirt for him.
Casey Cochran – Rockstar Energy Husqvarna
Moto 1 – 12th
Moto 2 – 12th
Overall – 10th
Grade – C+
Cochran looked alot more explosive this weekend. He started off with taking the top spot in qualifying by a little over a .5 second with a impressive 1:57:994. Casey would back it up with two great starts for both motos, but what worried me was his last few laps of each moto. Cochran seemed to fade a little bit towards the end of each moto, where his lap times would go from 2:03 – 2:05 all the way up to 2:16. In Moto 2 he would not fade as bad, with his times in the last few laps only getting up to 2:10. It’s only round 2, but this could be something to watch as the season goes on. Cochran was able to secure his first Pro Motocross top ten this weekend and is looking to build from that.
Ryder McNabb – AEO Powersports KTM
Moto 1 – 19th
Moto 2 – 21st
Overall – 23rd
Grade – B+
Ryder is the former Canadian 250 Triple Crown Series Champion and decided to leave his factory spot at KTM to pursue his career here in the US. Mcnabb joined AEO Powersports KTM where he raced a few 250SX Futures Events and now the first two rounds of outdoors. I’m not sure if he plans on doing the full series or is waiting until next year to go full time pro. McNabb had a strong weekend. His starts seemed to be okay, where he even ran in the top ten for a while. Watching his lap times he stayed consistent and did not seem to hardly fade at all. Racing the pro series up North the last few years has helped with his endurance I’m sure. If Ryder does the full series, I think we could see his true talent come out at RedBud. McNabb raced the combine here last year and had an excellent ride and showed his ability to charge through the pack in Moto 2 moving from 10th to 3rd.
