Cooper Webb Injury Update: Knee Evaluation Coming After RedBud Setback

Reigning 450 Monster Energy Supercross Champion Cooper Webb will undergo further evaluation on a knee injury sustained at Round 6 of the Pro Motocross Championship at RedBud, the team announced in its post-race press release.

According to the team, Webb “twisted” his knee in the second 450 qualifying session. Despite the setback, Webb raced both motos and finished the day ninth overall.

In the first moto, Webb was pushing toward the top 10 when his bike ran out of fuel just before the finish, per the team. He was awarded 15th place, as he had lapped up to that position. After getting passed by teammate Eli Tomac at the midway point of the second moto, Webb settled in and finished eighth.

“It was an up-and-down day at RedBud. I felt great in practice, and on the last turn of my good lap, I ripped my left leg off the footpeg and caught my knee pretty bad, which wasn’t great,” he said in a team statement. “Then in the first moto, I ended up crashing in turn two, right off the start. I was dead last with my bars and clutch bent, but I made a hard push to get myself into 10th before my bike ran out of fuel in the last turn. In Moto 2, it was just a bad start, but I rode really well and ran seventh until Eli got me late in the moto, and I finished eighth. Overall, it was a very rough day physically and mentally, but my riding was good. I’m going to get my knee checked out on Monday to make sure that we are all good.”

While Webb is out of contention in the Pro Motocross Championship, if he were to miss time it would affect his status for the upcoming SuperMotocross Playoffs. Currently, Webb sits first, but teammate Justin Cooper is only 14 points back. Aaron Plessinger is currently third in the standings, 57 back of Webb.

We will post an update as we know more.
