We are closing in on the start of the 2026 Pro Motocross opener next weekend at Fox Raceway, but we already have more to look forward to at round 3 at Thunder Valley on June 13: the Coenen twins.
Rumors of a potential full-time move to the U.S. have followed the uber-talented Belgian twins for years, with reports circulating it could happen as early as 2027. We will have to wait on that announcement, but for now, Steve Matthes, of PulpMX and Racer X, has reported that we will see the brothers lineup at Thunder Valley.
The announcement comes as the FIM World Motocross Championship returns from break this weekend at the MXGP of France. Through five rounds of the series, Lucas currently leads in MXGP points by four over Jeffrey Herlings. Meanwhile, Sacha trails MX2 points leader Simon Langenfelder by just three in the title chase.
The series begins a pivotal three-week stretch starting this weekend at the MXGP of France before heading to Germany and Latvia before a weekend off. The break in the schedule would allow the brothers to race Thunder Valley before the next round in Italy on June 21.
Earlier this year, the brothers signed a multi-year contract “to represent Red Bull KTM and continue their rise up the international motocross ladder.”
Here is more from that announcement:
The 19-year-old Belgian twins registered Grand Prix victories in both the MXGP and MX2 categories in 2025 and are expected to make championship pushes this term with the KTM 450 SX-F (ridden by Lucas in MXGP) and the KTM 250 SX-F (with Sacha in MX2).
Lucas finished as 2024 MX2 runner-up and then excelled as a rookie in MXGP in 2025 to win six races (becoming the youngest ever premier class victor in the process), seal 14 podium finishes and again take a P2 finish in the standings. Sacha banked two wins and 10 trophies in total for his second full-time term. 2025 also marked the first season of both brothers working with Davide De Carli and his Rome-based faction of Red Bull KTM Factory Racing.
