Year three of the SuperMotocross Playoffs begin this weekend with Charlotte, NC hosting the opening of three rounds before visits to St. Louis and Las Vegas. If you are on this site, we assume you know a thing or two about the Playoffs and its format and so on. But, since it has been a while, we’ll give you a quick refresher on how the points work:
- A combined points tally is accrued through the Monster Energy Supercross and Pro Motocross seasons
- The top 20 points earners in 450 and 250 will automatically qualify and be seeded into the SMX World Championship
- Riders from 21st to 30th in combined points will compete in a Wild Card race for the final two positions of the 22-rider field
- If a seeded, top 20 athlete is unable to compete in an event, an additional opportunity will be made available for a provisional racer to qualify through the Wild Card
- Any racer outside the top 30 in combined points who also won a Supercross Main Event or Pro Motocross moto will also be eligible to compete in the Wild Card race for the 21st and 22nd position
Something to keep in mind regarding the points below. A few riders listed below will miss this weekend due to injury. They will be replaced in the Wild Card portion of the events. Riders WILL NOT be moved up into the automatic qualifying positions.
Justin Cooper will enter the Playoffs in the #1 spot and have 25 points in the bank. Jett Lawrence (22 pts) and Malcolm Stewart (20 pts) will be second and third entering the opener. Haiden Deegan, Jo Shimoda and Garrett Marchbanks are the top three in points in the 250 division.
Below are the full standings and a reminder of how the points work in the Playoffs.
