Takes: Hollan Russell: Two Championships, Zero Excuses (AZ Open Highlights)

Yamaha Motor Corporation, USA, is proud to announce an extensive update to its industry-leading flagship Motocross model, the new 2026 YZ450F. Faced with the complex challenge of improving on a bike already widely considered the benchmark of the ultra-competitive 450cc four-stroke class, Yamaha engineers put significant focus into refining power delivery and handling performance to achieve a level of precision, control and tuneability that sets a new class standard: the easiest bike to ride fast. Learn more!

Hollan Russell rolled into the AZ Open at Arizona Cycle Park last weekend and did what Hollan Russell does best: act like a weekend warrior, then ride like a full-blown assassin. He rode his race proving that consistent and smart riding can get the job done. By Sunday afternoon he was standing on the podium holding two #1 plates.

The receipts:

250 Pro Sport — 2-2-2
Open Pro Sport — 2-2-1

The best part? Hollan isn’t following the standard blueprint. No homeschool schedule. No midweek motos. No seven-day training weeks with a coach yelling splits.

He’s a full-time public school kid with a normal life from Monday to Friday… who shows up on race weekends and outperforms riders with structured programs, more time, more resources, and more everything.

While the AZ Open was filled with kids who have polished programs, and riders who train like pros, Hollan kept his head down, rode smart, stayed consistent, and beat them the old-school way.

Nothing flashy. Nothing lucky. Just grit, speed, and riding consistently without any issues, placing him on the podium every single moto.

Keep sleeping on him and he will continue to stack plates.
