Indianapolis Tradeshow 2009

written by Brent Stallo

This past weekend the 2009 Motorcycle Dealer Expo took off in Indianapolis. It seems like the Indianapolis trade show went unnoticed in the media this year. While lastagbarst year there were multiple sites doing daily live updates from the show, we haven’t really heard too much about it this year. Instead of keeping with this trend we decided to head out to Indy and check out what the industries biggest and brightest companies have planned for the year ahead.

This annual show is for everyone to show off there new products to the dealers as well as a chance for companies to have meetings and make deals.  The expo takes place in the convention center downtown as well as the new Lucas Oil Stadium a couple blocks away.  Although it is not open to the general public, Vurb was on hand to give you a glimpse of some new and innovative products.

Valencia Sports Group, which consists of Six Six One, Sunline, Tag Metals, and Filtron, had many new products on display as well.  On the Six Six One side they introduced the new Fenix helmet and Comp boots.  The Comp boot is an affordable boot that's made from quality materials with all the features of a high-end boot.  Tag Metals introduced their all new black hard-anodized sprockets as well there innovative Rebound Technology Grip that guarantees no more blisters. If you have not had the luxury of wrapping your mitts around a set of these, we suggest you do so immediately. They are hands down our favorite low cost product of 2009.

thorguitarThere was also some exciting stuff happening at Thor all weekend with their spring release.  Thor's new Polka Dot gear, which was inspired by the great Randy Rhoads, was one of the new color ways showcased.  Thor had a musician come and play a replica of Randy's Polka Dot flying V guitars to keep everyone entertained.  Dealers could put a business card in a box to win the guitar as well as some Thor gear, and on Sunday they picked one lucky winner to take it home.

Fly Racing introduced their new helmet, the Formula, as well their new Chest Protector, the Convertible 2.  The Formula helmet flyhelmrackhas many key features, like the Tri-Vents, Dual Density EPS Liner, Perforated Comfort Liner, and real titanium hardware.  The Helmet also comes with an extra graphic visor, cold weather air vent kit, and a helmet bag.  The Convertible 2 protector features a quick release neck strap so you can easily wear a neck brace.

Dragon Racing Fuels showcased their new fuel series at the show, the JM-6, JM-01, and the JM-Pro. Dragon has an AMA legal fuel with the JM-Pro which is used by the Motoconcepts race team and the Fire and Police/KTM race team.  Dragon is making a huge push in the amateur scene with riders like Brandon Mays, Gannon Audette, Alexander Frye and many other top-level teams. There were also some really cool new companies with innovative products.  Kali Protectives has an extremely light-weight helmet called the Aatma, which has a Fiberglass Tri-Weave Shell with Composite Fusion EPS Liner. Risk Racing introduced a new "ride-on" bike lift, an electronic practice starting gate, and a MX Lock-N-Load transport system.

The sheer magnitude of this show is indescribable. It takes an entire day just to walk around half of the display areas. It was an experience of a lifetime and one that I wish all of you could one day experience. Perhaps the coolest part of the show was seeing just how many companies are out there supporting our sport. There were literally thousands of small companies with new products on display trying to become the next big thing. There is no doubt that we are experiencing difficult times right now, but after witnessing the amount of support we have from companies all over the world, I have a strong feeling we will come out of these times unscathed.
