Mid-East LLQ 2009: Log Road MX
Nearing the end of the Loretta’s Area Qualifiers, Log Road MX in Bronson, Michigan spruced up the track for the Mid-East’s last chance at a spot at the regional gates. The week leading to Log Road forecasted some gnarly weather, but everything worked out well for some great racing on the rocky track. FMF, MCR suspension, Vitamin Water, Tech-Care Suspension, Monster
Energy, Rock River Yamaha, Mad Mike’s Minis, Frese shoes, Championship Powersports, and more were on hand to support the flocks of racers on their way to the big dance in Tennessee. Many national amateur riders came to Bronson, Michigan already holding a spot on the regional gates, but looking for a backup spot in another region.
Team Green sent out the troops from the Hayes squad to Log Road. Jacob Hayes rode his #573 Kawasaki’s to the top spot eight times at Log road. Jacob shredded the rocky track to dominate both schoolboy classes all weekend and appears to have more speed on reserve. From Jamestown, North Carolina, the Mid-east region is likely to be Hayes’ backup region for the big dance. All weekend Hayes showed his flashy Fox gear off way out front, and it’s promising to see much more from the #573 in the near future. This kid hauls.
Shane Sewell. The dude stopped by from Westville, Indiana, to clean up the 450A/ Pro Sport class all
weekend. Saturday He won the first moto by a mile, and the second moto saw him win over Jerry Lorenz by about half a knobbie after a string of costly problems early in the moto. Sunday was all Shane. Sewell won over the #241 of Greg Durivage, who was also turning wicked lap times- after coming out of winter hibernation from college.
Jacob Williamson came to Log Road confident after last week's solid performance at Baja MX's Area qualifier, 85 Jr. & 85 9-13 were all Jacob at Log Road, and he hopes to take that momentum to Sunday Creek's Youth Regional on his #373 Suzuki’s.
Sunday's 450B class was taken home by the #486 Honda Austin Brack. Consistency paid off big for the Schererville, Indiana rider when his 2-2 moto scores gave him the overall win in the qualifier. Brack took second Saturday after trading moto wins with the #116 of Michael Lang from Saugerties, New York.
Open B was all Eric Saunders on Sunday. Saunders rode strong and impressive as he took both moto wins on his #449 Suzuki. Saunders was the only rider to attempt doubling two steep tabletops out of an off camber turn on Sunday, and it definitely turned some heads.
Championship Powersports rider Austin Haught rode his #864 Honda incredibly to land on the podium all weekend. The Dewitt, Michigan rider has been spotted all over turning fast laps after working hard at the Georgia Practice Facility.
After a solid weekend of fun times, good racing, and strange weather, the Mid-East Regional lineup is locked in. With the Area qualifiers so stacked with talent, Red Bud's amateur Regional is sure to be a hot bed of national quality racers on the Pro quality track. June 6-7 is sure to be an Epic weekend of racing from the future's best MX pros. Sunday Creek in Jacksonville, Ohio is home to the Mid-East's Youth Regional on May 30-31 and is also certain to host some intense racing. So many riders from the Mid-East have the raw speed to be on the podium and will be battling for their spot at Loretta's.
