Introducing: Braxton Prieto

written by Chase Stallo

Braxton Prieto is slowly making a case to have his name beside Ben Evans as the fastest rider from the state of Idaho. After some bad luck at Whitney, Prieto buckled down and put in two top-3 and an 8th place finish at Oak Hill, showing everyone that he is going to cause some havoc this year in the 85 7-11 class. A strong training regiment coupled with the confidence from Oak Hill, Braxton has his sights set on Loretta’s and taking home a spot on the podium. We sat down with Braxton to revisit Oak Hill and find out his plans for the rest of the year. CHECK IT OUT………….

Braxton start out by introducing yourself to the Vurb Community?
My name is Braxton Prieto and I’m from New Plymouth, Idaho. I’m 11 years old and I ride 85 7-11 stock and mod.

Let’s back track a little to Whitney and Oak Hill. You struggled a little bit at Whitney but you really stepped your game up at Oak Hill. Tell us what you think made the difference at Oak Hill?
At Whitney I had a wreck. I was in the lead in the 60 class and I cased a jump and kind of endod and crashed and was out of that race. Then in the 80 class I got a bad start and then wrecked. I got back up and came back to like 17th. I was kind of disappointed but I told myself I was going to do a lot better at Oak Hill and I just focused more on Oak Hill.

After a nice finish to the Texas swing you decide to skip out on the trip to Vegas. Tell us what went into that decision?
We sat down and were talking about going but then we decided not to. So we decided to stay here and train hard for Loretta’s.

What kind of training have you been doing to get ready for Loretta’s?
My new trainer Chris Schmulbath and I have been doing four 20-min motos and doing ten sprints. I’ve also been going to the gym every single day and just training really hard.

What qualifiers have you raced?
I did some qualifiers in Denver. I did pretty good in Denver. I was in first and I kind of bobbled and got second. Then the next day it was really muddy and I was in the lead again and I hit a big dirt mound and went down. But I got back up and came back and got 3rd.

What are your plans for the rest of the year? Are we going to see you at Mammoth or Ponca?
Yeah, we might go to Mammoth. I think we are going to Ponca for sure.

Now that we have the serious part of the interview out of the way we are going to switch it up a bit by finding out a little more about you. Sound good to you.
Yeah.

Other than motocross what are your favorite hobbies?
In the winter I like snowboarding.

Who are some of your main riding buddies?
Right now I’m training with Zach Burnett.

Who is your favorite pro rider?
Darryn Durham.

What is your favorite track to ride at?
My favorite track would be Loretta’s.

Worst track?
Vegas.

Thanks for introducing yourself to the Vurb Community, would you like to thank anyone before I let you go?
Fly, CSMX Training, Fox Shocks and my Mom and Dad.
