Regal to make Pro Debut
written by Kaelyn Sheedy
It appears as if the rapid influx of amateurs jumping ship to make their pro debut continues, this time with Texas native/Honda of Houston rider, Kyle Regal. The Honda rider will make his pro debut this weekend in front of his hometown fans at Freestone and, given the success of his rookie counterparts, feels he's got a shot at doing some damage. He wasn't extremely talkative throughout our conversation, but we were able to get a few pertinent pieces of information from the reserved Regal about his big debut this weekend.
Yeah!
Usually, we'd see a rider like yourself finish out your season at Loretta's, then step up to the Pro ranks. How did all this come about?
Well, I was kind of planning on it anyway after Texas nationals, but we didn't want to say anything. So, now I'm doing it.
No way, no Loretta's anymore, nothing?
Yeah we just kept everything quiet. No Ponca or Loretta's, but I believe I'm doing Mammoth.
You must be excited, but at the same time a little nervous?
No not really nervous, I'm ready. I'll be riding for Honda of Houston still and we did suspension testing and a few other things to get my bike dialed in before this weekend.
You've seen how well Barcia has done the past two rounds, how do you expect to finish your first rookie race?
Hopefully, a top ten. I know I'm fast enough, I just need to stay on two wheels and get a good start. There's really not a whole lot of pressure on me.
Do you think you can hang it all out for the entire 35 minutes?
I think I can...I know I can, but you know it's a completely different ball game from amateur ranks. It's more serious. The tracks are different. The track is going to be so much more rough, but I think it will be good, suits my style more.
You're keeping all the same sponsors?
Yes. Answer, Oakley, everything is staying the same.
Kyle, good luck this weekend and ride smart.
Thanks a lot.
