Round 4 of the Maxxis British Championship took place on Sunday at Hawkstone Park. The weather was bright sunshine and the track was in good condition despite the relentless amount of rain during the week leading up to the event. The event also featured Round 3 of the MXY2.

In the first MXY2 race of the day saw drama at the start with series leader Josh Waterman taking the lead while title contender Luke Hawkins crashed in the first corner and couldn’t get his bike restarted for over a lap. At the front it was Waterman leading McCammond until Matt Burrows passed for second. At the finish it was Waterman from Burrows and McCammond with Steven Smyth and Ewan McLaren taking fourth and fifth places.

The next race up was the first of the MX2 races. The big story was Mattis Karro riding after only just having his hand taken out of a cast. At the start it was Karro who took the lead and ran up front ahead of Martin Barr, Scott Elderfield with Stephen Sword and Jake Nicholls close behind. The riders were closely bunched together with Karro beginning to show the strain by lap four when he crashed out of the race after a hardjakenicholls pass by Elderfield. Elderfield then took over the lead ahead of Barr until he made a mistake and slipped back to third. Barr wasn’t finished and pushed hard again to move back into second, before passing Elderfield with two laps to go. At the finish it was Barr from Elderfield and Sword with Nicholls taking fourth and Neville Bradshaw in fifth.

The first race of the MX1 class saw Gareth Swanepoel take the holeshot and race to a flag to flag win. Tom Church took over second early on but was soon passed by Billy MacKenzie and Brad Anderson. The race went on and saw Swanepoel take the win ahead on MacKenzie and Anderson. Fourth and fifth went to James Noble and Tom Church.

The second MXY2 class saw Josh jakenicholls2Waterman and Luke Hawkins both get out of the gate together and race hard for the opening laps. Everything went as planned until Hawkins crashed and couldn’t get the Honda started again. At the end of the race it was Waterman from McLaren in second and McCammond in third. Fourth and fifth went to Smyth and Alfie Smith.

The Second MX2 race saw Jake Nicholls make the start ahead of his teammate Stephen Sword. The pair raced tooth and nail with Sword unable to find a way past. The battle was very exciting with the both riders going wheel to wheel. On lap nine Sword made a pass for the lead but for only a few corners. But then on lap 10 when it looked as if he’d broken Sword, Nicholls sufferd a broken rear wheel and had to retire from the race. This left Sword to take the win ahead of Bradshaw and Mel Pocock. Fourth and fifth went to Wayne Smith and Shane Carless.

The Last race of the day was the MX1 race and again Swanepoel took another flag to flag race win. This time it was ahead of Brad Anderson. The third place was finally taken by Carl Nunn after working his way out through the field. The fourth place went to James Noble and Fifth to Billy MacKenzie.
