Contributor Spotlight: Ryan Walters
Our Contributor Spotlight this month comes to you from the hills of Yorba Linda, California, the home of none other than Ryan Walters, a.k.a. Sheck, a.k.a. R Dub, a.k.a.
Triple XL, a.k.a. Walt, a.k.a. The Cougar Hunter, a.k.a. Ry Ry.
At eighteen-years-old The Cougar Hunter is the youngest face on staff here at Vurb, but is also one of the most talented. Note that when we say talented we aren’t referring to his face, but rather his skills with a video camera. Over the last year Walt has become our go to guy on the west coast. He’s easily detectable by his XXXL t-shirts that hang down to his ankles, his classic flat bill west coast gangster hats, his $300 jeans he wears to the track and his double diamond studded ear rings, which we are convinced, are fake.
Walt can be considered a student of injury. As an up-and-coming mini bike rider in California Walt was stricken with a gnarly broken femur early into his big bike career that left him couch ridden for nearly an entire year. Unable to make a comeback he picked up a video camera and began his career as a videographer. “I remember him sending us videos right when he started,” said Wes Williams, Vurb’s Video Director. “I didn’t know the kid at the time, but man did his videos suck. He kept sending stuff, though, and you could tell he was making significant improvements each time.” Ryan’s had the pieces of the puzzle, he just needed time to figure out how to put them all together. And as time would eventually prove, he didn’t need long.
Ryan has, in only two short years of filming, already become one of Vurb’s most valued videographers and is part of the team that makes up the Racer X Motocross show on Allisports.com. A feat that would take most years of training.
When Ryan isn’t filming he spends his time sleeping, running from the cops on his 110, hanging out in his garage and staring blankly into mid air. He is currently making the three month road trip with Vurb, touring every round of the 2009 Lucas Oil Motocross Championships and every amateur national. Ryan has been kind enough to drive 89 of the total 4,500 miles driven thus far this summer and we look forward to him putting in another 50 or so before the trip is up.
In all seriousness, Ryan is one of the most talented young editors in the biz right now and his career with Vurb hasn’t even begun to reach its potential. Keep an eye out in the new Vurb E-Store later this summer for Ryan’s first film release, The Golden Era.

That kid was our local fast kid and I remember when he got hurt. It sucked cause I kinda looked up to him. His videos are sick though even some of his first ones with just his buddies in them.
