A Weekend at Dade City
One of the hottest weekends of the motocross calendar saw James Stewart take to the Dade City track for his 3rd ride day, before making way and letting the South East's top riders battle it out for Gold Cup points.
With the combination of events, the turnout was extremely healthy and even with the extreme heat, everyone looked like they were having a good time. Red Bull providing free drinks certainly helped people who had travelled from all over for this event.
Stewart rode for a good period of time, mixing in some blazing hotlaps with some track cruising, allowing a good few people to go home and tell their friends "I passed James Stewart". However, when he did decide to go for it, he showed no signs of cobwebs or problems with the new 2010 Yamaha 450F.
With the practice over, the serious stuff began as riders of all ages lined up for round two of the Florida Gold Cup. The track looked in excellent condition, and because it's 100% sand, there were never any holdups from watering the track, although Randy Yoho and his team did an excellent job making sure the track remained safe for all the different classes.
The sand also means that local guys who run the tracks regularly, usually do pretty well here (like John Dowd at Southwick) so it was no surprise when Kenny Yoho took both the Plus 25 and Plus 30 classes. Dalton Yingling raced well in both his classes, but he couldn't beat fellow Floridian Derek Hall who looked good all day.
Cullin Park was the best 50 rider, winning both the 7-8 and Open classes on his Cobra machine. Cody Chisholm also won two, as he swept both the Supermini classes. One of the bigger names in amateur motocross who attended Dade City was Zach Freeberg, but he couldn't quite put it together for both motos in either class, losing out to Robby Renner and Heath Harrison in the 250B and Open B respectively.

The Gold Cup series now heads to Lake City for round three, so expect just as much entertainment there, although hopefully the temperatures won't be quite as high.
