The Venezuelan Invasion

written by Brent Stallo

There's a new kid in town.  States actually! You can call him A-Rod. He's not on the juice (ie New York Yankee Alex Rodriguez), but he is on the pipe, and not the Amy Winehouse type, the YZ 125 type. Venezuelan native Anthony Rodriguez has officially come to the USA to play ball with the big boys of amateur motocross. Although his English is still improving, his speed and skill needs no further explanation. After running in the top 5  during the VPAC with the top 5 Intermediate racers from Loretta's, the American boys better keep their eye out. Training at the Millsaps Training Facility, Rodriguez is getting amp'd up for the 2010 season. You'll be sure to hear more of Anthony's name here in the near future...but for now, check out the video here and read below to catch up!

Nice to meet you, Anthony! Coming from Venezuela, you've surprised much of the racing industry here in America with your talent. Tell us a little about your history in racing?Corner
I've been racing for 10 years, and have won 8 National titles in Venezuela throughout 50s, 60s, 80s and big bikes. Two weeks ago I won the 125B class and have obtained 3 Latin America Championships!

What brought you to America?
I feel there is better racing and I want to pursue my dream of going Pro. I would like to make it Pro in Supercross and get a factory ride.

So when did you get to the states?
I've been at MTF since September, I'll be staying the whole year and will go from there. I've been coming on and off to the states since last year and I raced all Winter Amateur Nationals. This year I decided to fully move to America to race.

What are your plans for the 2010 season?
I plan to race all Amateur Nationals and finish top 5 in all of them. I would like to race as many races as possible including local races. Just race as much as I can and hopefully podium at Loretta's!

AirWho is your favorite rider?
Ernesto Fonseca!

What do you find to be more of a challenge racing here in America vs. in Venezuela?
How aggressive the riders are and the speed that they (the riders) have here. Thanks to how fast people are here, it's more of a challenge and I have a lot more fun out here. It enables me to provide myself with a challenge.

What keeps you focused at such a young age?
Ever since I was 6 years old I've known exactly where I want to go in racing. Although I've had a couple set backs as many might, I am still 100% focused and still working hard.

Anyone you would like to thank at this point?
Special thanks to Colleen Millsaps, Brian Johnson Jr. and everyone here that has helped me so far.

We wish you luck for the 2010 season!
Thank you!
