As the Boards Turn

Here we go! This will be a new feature of Vurb Insider where we delve into the hottest topics being discussed on the online message boards. Many industry people claim not to read them, but more and more keep popping up as the power of the web continues its everlasting grip on life as we know it. Heck, even David Pingree, one of the biggest opponents of what goes on the boards, signed up for a Vital MX account and made his first post.
One of the most popular discussions over the years has been the two-stroke versus four-stroke debate. It started many years ago when guys were racing their converted BSA and Norton four stroke street bikes into scramble bikes. Then in the 70s the two-strokes came along and ruled the roost for quite some time. Fast forward to the late 90s and all around good guy, Doug Henry, piloted a Works Yamaha Four Stroke to a Supercross win, changing the sport forever.
It took a few years, but eventually the big five all had competitive 250cc and 450cc four-stroke motocross bikes in their lineups. Currently only Yamaha and KTM even offer a two-stroke machine in the U.S. With the advanced technology of the valved bikes came an ever increasing price tag, now most 450s come from the factory with an MSRP right around $8,000.00. An extremely high cost compared to the 250 two-strokes of yesteryear.
