MIA: Darian Sanayei
Team Green Kawasaki rider, Darian Sanayei of Washington State has been one of the fastest up and coming 85 riders in amateur motocross for the past four years. But in case you didn't notice, Darian has been MIA for quite some time. A gnarly accident while practicing at Mammoth put Darian on the sidelines for much of 2009 with a severely broken tib and fib. Being out for the past few months, Darian has regained his focus, made his plan of action and is itchin' to get back on the bike. Next year he'll be racin with the big boys and it'll be a new ball game for the MSR team racer. Check out what he's up to, what his goals are and who his biggest fan is!

Hey Darian! First off, what can you tell the Vurb readers about your absence from the racing scene for the past few months?
In practice at Mammoth I fell and was getting back on my bike and got hit by another bike from behind. It snapped my tib and fib in half. I had to have 2 surgeries. The pain was only bad for awhile, not being able to ride hurt the worst.
Tell us about your accident and what Doc recommended for healing time?
I got hit by a bike from behind as I was getting on my bike. It snapped my tib and fib in half. I had to have 2 surgeries the Dr's said I got hit so hard it was like a crush injury. I could not walk on it for 3 months then the last month I could walk. I got the external fixator out 10/27/09 and I can start riding but I am not able to race or jump because my bone is not 100% healed yet.
Which means your first race back will be....?
Lake Whitney
So before your injury, you were placing consistently in the top 10, 5 and even top 3 in the 85 and 65 class for the past 3-4 years. In that time, what do you feel were some of your most successful accomplishments?
All of my championships, 3rd at World Mini's in the Supermini
Where did you feel you measured up in your class?
The beginning of 2009 I was new on the Kawasaki and learning the bike since I just started riding them a week before Lake Whitney, but before I got hurt I had been training really hard and I felt I was going to do really good. I love the bike and was going pretty fast.
Coming back after your recovery, where do you think you will stand?
I am going to train very hard so I hopefully will come back faster and stronger
As a Kawasaki Team Green Rider you have shown many supporters and sponsors your talent. Another sponsor is MSR, tell us about your relationship with them as a rider?
MSR and Kawasaki Team Green are great. I could not ask for better sponsors. They help me out with everything and are always there for me. MSR is definitely the best gear out there and me and Charles are tight.
So what are your plans for the 2010 year as far as sponsors and a team?
I am really happy where I am right now.
Although you are in the same age bracket, you're a little smaller than most in your class. Do you feel that is more of an advantage or disadvantage?
It can be both, but being smaller I can get a better start.
Currently you live in Washington State. Rumor is that you may move to California or Texas solely for riding purposes. Any truth to that?
Yes, that is true. I like WA because I have lived here my whole life, but riding is not that great here because it rains too much and a lot of the tracks have been shut down. I really like it in CA.
What are your goals in continuing your racing career for when you are fully able and healthy to ride again?
Train hard and come back stronger and faster and be consistent
You have a sister and she's absolutely your biggest fan! Just to throw in a little mention to someone who believes in you so much...tell us a little about how her support helps you!
She is always there for me telling me what I do right AND wrong, she makes sure I eat good and work out everyday. I couldn't do it without her!
Any one you would like to thank?
All my sponsors, they help me out so much -Monster Energy Kawasaki Team Green, MSR, Maxima, FMF, Dunlop, Shoei, Protaper, UNI, Monster Energy, Scott, MotoArmor, JM Racing, White Knuckle, Ogio, IMS, RK Chains, Proskin, BreezeFreeze, SCR, Vurbmoto and my family.
Thanks for your time today Darian and good luck in recovery!
