Braxton Prieto has been flying under the radar over the last few years, and when I say flying, I mean it. Braxton is currently transitioning to 80s and has been gating up at Loretta's since he was on 50s. In 2007, he rode to a 7th overall at Loretta's in the 7-9 stk class and followed that up with his first amateur national championship at the 2007 Amateur Open in the 65 7-9 mod class. Since then, Braxton has moved to the front of the 65cc amateur national field and etched his name amongst the title contenders at Lake Whitney, Oak Hill, and the World Mini.
This year at the Parts Unlimited Spring Classic at Lake Whitney, Braxton was on his way to his second championship title when he crashed on the last lap. As a result, he was only able to salvage a 9th overall before heading to Oak Hill for the Vurbmoto.com GNC Motocross International. At Oak Hill, Braxton turned his luck around, making his way to the podium twice, placing 2nd in the 65 stk and 3rd in the 65 mod classes.
The World Mini would prove to be another bitter sweet event. Braxton was once again fighting for a title when his tire blew, resulting in broken spokes and shattered hopes. He maintained composure and nursed his bike to a 4th place finish, which was extremely impressive given the situation.
Braxton recently won his area qualifier at Honey Lake and is planning on running the 65 7-11 stk and 85 7-11 stk classes at Loretta's in 2008. He is getting support from Suzuki and is feeling very comfortable on the 80s. His sights are set on his maiden Loretta's Championship in 2008 and in conversation there is no doubt that he has the confidence needed to bring it home.
Braxton looks up to Dean Wilson and admires his determination and ability to ride on the edge. He looks to Vurbmoto.com as a resource in which to watch, learn, and monitor his competitions progression. His favorite track is Mammoth. Braxton loves reading motorcycle mechanic books and is currently raking in A's and B's within his home school program.
Braxton is one of the many riders deserving of our Introducing feature article and one rider on which we will continue to keep a close eye. It may sound cliché, but don't take your eyes off this kid, he's got a promising future ahead of him.
