The race is over, and I’m to blame. After years of epic battles and storybook endings, the race between the tortoise and the hare is no more.

I have killed both the tortoise and the hare and nothing can be done about it. We can not go back in time and stop the Toyota Tacoma tire from crushing the shell of the tortoise nor can we escape the fact that the hare was not elusive enough to escape my carelessness. I will have you know that neither of their deaths was deliberate. Rather quite the opposite. Yes, I did manage to run over a rabbit and a turtle in the same afternoon, but aside from running my truck into a ditch and scratching up the paint job, I did everything in my power to elude said tragedy.

My plight now is to find a new story for the children of tomorrow. I have no answer for this dilemma as of today, but will continue to rack my brain in order to ensure a smile on every young toddlers face when they ask for their next bed time story. So it is written.
