Number Check: Tommy Weeck

Tommy Weeck was becoming one of the most talked about B riders in the country this year when he took title after title at Lake Whitney and Oak Hill. After putting in solid results in Texas and at World Mini, Tommy was on top of his game and looking for more championships throughout the rest of the season. Fast forward to June 2nd 2008, and all that would be quickly tossed out the window. Tommy would take a gnarly crash while practicing at Starwest in California that would leave him sidelined from Ponca City and the prestigious Loretta Lynn's nationals. Tommy is now bike on the bike, and beginning to pick up right where he left off. Most of the top B class riders have graduated into the A class since Loretta's, the guys that Tommy was battling with earlier this season. After sustaining such tremendous injuries and being sidelined since June 2nd, where will Tommy Weeck make his return? Will he stay in the B class one more year, or will he jump right back into the action in the highly anticipated A class? Tommy broke his right arm, left wrist, and the talus bones in both of his feet in the accident. Since then, he has overcome this injury, is already feeling close to 100%, and is looking to make his return to the amateur national circuit this year!
We saw the film Ryan Walters made out at milestone about a week ago, and to be honest, I wasn't expecting to see you ripping it up out there! How long have you been back on the bike, and how are you feeling?
I have been back on the bike for about three weeks now, but I'm still taking it slow and trying not to rush into it. I want to make sure everything heals just perfect, you know?! I am feeling great, and really happy to be back on the bike again.
You were on fire before your injury. How has the time off of the bike affected your riding? Do you feel that you lost a lot of ground? Were there any positive things that came from taking the time off?
Yeah, you know, when I got hurt I thought I would have lost a lot more than I did. Me and my trainer, Ryno [Ryan Hughes], both believe that I'm already back to where I was on speed and fitness. I believe that everything happens for a reason, so I am sure that there will be something positive that will come out of this eventually.
When do you plan on making your return to the amateur nationals?
As of now I am trying to make my first national Mini O's in FL.
Will you remain in the B class? If so, for how long? Or will you go A?
(Laughs) No, I am definitely going to go A for my first race back.
We look forward to seeing you make your comeback. Who do you feel will be your biggest
competition when you come back?
Thanks man, I can't wait to get back! You know, everyone will be fast, so no one can really say who is going to be the biggest competition. Honestly, there are just too many.
Thanks for you time, Tommy. Take this time to thank your sponsors.
