Number Check: Austin Politelli
Austin Politelli has is a veteran in the world of amateur motocross. He's raced beside and beat the best mini riders in the country over the past few years and has become a very well rounded rider in the process. To find him outside the top five on the national circuit this season was a rarity, however, finding him in the number one spot was also a rarity. Always known for his consistency, Austin has had trouble this season breaking the seal and taking home that number one plate. That's why his win at the U.S. Open this year was such a huge accomplishment. He did something no one thought he would do and he beat 11 of the fastest 85 riders in the world. Big things lie ahead for this young Suzuki rider, you can count on that.
Austin, tell us a little about your 2008 season. How do you feel that you did overall throughout the year?
2008 went alright. I got a lot of second place finishes. I was bummed that I didn't get any championships, but I'm really happy that I won the US Open!
It seems as if you had a monkey on your back and you just couldn't pull off the overall wins this year. Do you feel that you have overcome this?
Yeah, it just seemed like I couldn't pull off a win, but I think I got the monkey off of my back!
How does it feel to win the 85cc race at the US Open and be one of the top 12 85cc riders in the world this year?
It was awesome just to be able to race, but to win it was so cool!
Did winning this race boost your confidence level? You beat some of the fastest 85cc riders in the world.
Yes, it definitely helped boost my confidence.
This race finally proved that you have what it takes to win! You beat guys like Jessy Nelson and Joey Savatgy. What did it take to finally beat these guys?
I think that it was my confidence at the US Open that allowed me to beat these guys.
Do you feel that you can continue with this confidence in 2009?
Yes, for sure!
Will you remain on 85's in 2009?
I will be riding 85s and 125s!
Explain a little about your training program. Have you been doing anything to prepare yourself for the upcoming Mini O's?
I have been riding and training a lot with my physical trainer Rob at X-Factor.
Will we be seeing you at all of the amateur nationals in 2009?
Yes, I will be at all of them!
Once again, congratulations on you win at the US Open, and thanks for your time. Give a shout out to all of your sponsors for there support.
