MAMMOTH MINI RACE DAY 2
As the sun slowly began to rise over the horizon and the youngsters were stretching their legs, Mammoth Mini Race Day 2 was getting underway. At Mammoth, unlike some other races, they crown winners everyday and then an overall winner combining the two days of racing. Today, winners were crowned, trophies were given out here, hugs and kisses were all around and dreams were fullfilled. Check out who took home some hardward.

Day 2 kicked off with the Honda class (150 class), which was owned by the Canauk Cole Thompson. Cole rode lights out and pretty much walked away with the title in this class. Cooper Webb put in a solid day of racing, but the real story here was the fact the he was even riding after what happened yesterday. While heading up the hill off the start Cooper went down and was ran over a number of times, similar to Alessi last year at the nationals. Things didn't look to good for the young Red Bull Honda rider as he was pretty banged afterwards. But Coop was on the pipe after his gnarly crash and was able to finish second overall with his 5-2 finish. Vann Martin has been on the gas here in Mammoth and has put his Honda up with the leaders in each moto, he finished third overall with his 4-3 performance.
Bryson Gardner has pretty much come out of nowhere this week and killed it! Gardner went out and won all 4 motos this week dominating the 65 6-8 class. However, Garrett Marchbanks kept him honest every moto finishing a close second. In t
he older division of the 65’s things got shaken up a little today. Michael Mosiman stepped up his game from yesterday and went 1-1. The youngster Sean Cantrell had his A game and finished up second. Luke Purther made Cantrell earned it though; in the second moto the two went back and fourth a number of times. Cantrell had a little more in the end, and Purther had to settle for third.
Matt Bisceglia is a mad man! This kid is killing it, he went out and won every moto he entered. He is a big kid, but his size is
not stopping him from racking up the wins! Cooper Webb’s gut performance was awesome, and he was able to but his Red Bull Honda in the second spot even after his injuries from yesterday.
Chris Alldredge also had a gutsy performance; after the race he stated, “I have been sick and I threw up about half way through the moto.” It takes a man to throw up in your helmet and keep on pinning it. Chris put together some impressive rides and finished up on the box in the 12-13 class.
The first moto of the 85 14-16 class was a full out battle for the second spot between Brady Kiesel and Andrew Silverstein. The two hammered on each other for the whole 7 laps, putting block pass after block pass on each other giving the crowd a great show. It looked like Cole Thompson had things locked up, but with 3 laps left to go Cole got flat front tire killing any chance he had at the title. Kiesel and Silverstein keep pushing each other and were finally able to reel in Thompson. Kiesel tasted the win and attacked, Thompson and Kiesel were side by side down the “freeway” and Kiesel was able to make the pass in the last turn, just getting the best of Thompson for the moto win. In the second moto it was all Thompson as he jumped out front early and checked out. Silverstein was able to get the best of Kiesel Moto 2, but Kiesel was able to hold on for second overall.
Ryan Surratt was on the gas in the 85 7-11 class today. He got out front early and ran away from the rest of the pack. Second through seventh was a straight out battle and James Gardiner was the engine of the freight train. Suzuki’s Steven Gretchen was one of the favorites coming into the week, but he was not able to get a win after his long trip from West Virginia. Gardiner was able to hold strong and finish in the second spot with Gretchen finishing a close third.
Once again it was all Bisceglia in the supermini class. Justin Hill jumped out to the holeshot, but couldn’t hold off the speed of Bisc
eglia. Once Bisceglia got out front it was a battle for second between Hill, Chris Alldredge and Jesse Masterpool. The three of them went at if for a number of laps. Hill was pushing and came into a corner hot and slid out and dropped back to seventh. Masterpool and Alldredge went at it for a few more laps, but in the end it was Masterpool who finished in the second spot with Alldredge a close third.
The minis are done and it is time for the big kids to hit the track. Tomorrow will serve as practice for all of the riders. Stay tuned tomorrow to see some practice action along with Who’s Who “Big Boys”.
Well we found Stewart and his bike the other day in the pits, but today we found Blake Baggett dropping back down to the 85 class on board Bubba's bike. It was a crazy sight, not sure what is going on with this one...
We also caught the "champ" Matt Bisceglia catching some "Z's" in between motos. We now know his secret to his success.
