A lot of people that read this site may not know that Iride, or now I would justify it as “trying to ride”. Fact of the matter is, I used to race for quite a few years. I got my first bike in ’98, started racing in the fall of ’99, and raced all the way up until my film career started to bud more so than my racing career, which was around the end of ‘04.My point in bringing this up? Jimmy Albertson and I were talking after a little film shoot today, and we started talking about 2002, the year he and I both raced at Loretta Lynn’s in the 125 C class together. Yes, I made it to Loretta’s once, and while I may not have accomplished near to what I felt was my potential, I still feel honored to say that I went.
A lot of the guys that raced with us that year have pretty good pro careers. Jimmy for one, Michael Lapaglia another, and Adam Metzler. Auston Albers, who placed 2nd in the 125 C stock class that year, went on to a 2nd overall in the 4-stroke class at Loretta’s this past year. A few other names that might be recognizable would be Jonathon Camp, Levi Sammons, Chip Weatherup, Brandon Abell, Zach Blackwell, Kyle Odom, Randy Jarvis, and I know there are plenty others I am missing out on especially out of the southeast.
That was a truly special year for me as that was my biggest goal of my life at the time; I was going to Loretta’s no matter what it took. I vow one day, sooner than later, I will be making my return…I want a trophy.
