Round three of the Gold Cup series was held at Dade City last weekend and with the gas shortages happening all over the east coast riders and families alike were feeling the pressure. Despite the hardships, one of the most well known sand tracks in central Florida held yet another great weekend of racing. The pro class turn out was smaller than anticipated, but, as they have in previous weeks, the 85 and 65 classes continued to bring the most excitement. Although there was some threat of rain, the weather held off for the entire day allowing for a dry overcast day of racing.
Cullin Park yet again stepped up to the plate and put his #43 Cobra on top of the results sheet. This little ripper is without a doubt the next up and coming 50 star out of Florida. Jordan Bailey, in the older 50 class and Open 50 class, rode tirelessly for another perfect weekend, as well. Keep an eye out for these two at Mini O's.
Kade Walker and Tyler Pantley (above) both carried their winning momentum into the third round this weekend. Kade Walker for the second weekend in a row took the over all for the 65 (10-11) class while Tyler Pantley put his KTM on top in the second moto, securing the overall for the 65 (7-9) class. Kade Walker lost the overall in the 65 Open class to Kevin Steele due to a first moto upset.
Lydia Grenier, who went undefeated last weekend, came into this weekend with some confidence and won the overall yet again. Her flawless finishes for the past two weekends are unquestionably setting her up for the overall championship.
With a limited amount of riders in the 85 (14-15) class, Jack Sigismondi effortlessly won both motos. In the 85 (12-13) class it was Jett Johnson who beat out CK Douglas and Cody Chisholm for the overall again this weekend. It was a close call in a few motos where we saw Chisholm on a mission to reel in and pass Johnson, but Johnson was able to hang strong and keep his lead.
Mason Price (above) and Dalton Myers proved to be the two heavy hitters returning for round three. Myers' 8th place moto one finish in 85 (9-11) would take him out of the running for the overall, but his second moto win proved he is in fact one of the fastest 85 riders in Florida. Mason price, the overall winner, may be unfamiliar to some, but this up and coming prospect is one to look out for if we see him at Mini O's.
Clifford Sanders gave Dalton Myers' a run for his money when he took the second moto win in the Jr. Mini (9-13) class, but Dalton's 1-2 score was victorious over Sanders 4-1. As for Cody Chisholm (above), he's been quick to follow in the foot steps of his older brother, Cody put his Kawasaki out front early in both motos and made winning the Supermini (12-16) overall look easy.
Derek Hall (above) was on top this weekend in the Open A class and Open Pro class. Once out front it was a pretty simple ride to the finish although he did feel the pressure from Ricky Renner (above) on a few occasions. Derek Almy (far above) pulled off the win for the 250 A class when Ricky Renner and Tyler Livesay both experienced bike problems. Ricky Renner took the moto two victory but Almy was there to take the overall. In the last 250 Pro moto it was Ricky Renner who beat out Derek Almy for the overall.
Malcom Stewart (above) may have earned the first moto win in the Open B class but the #49 of Jerry Kopoian edged out Stewart in moto two and took the overall. Stewart might have lost his momentum in this class but came back to redeem himself by clenching the overalls in 250 B and Schoolboy. Impressive ride from KTM rider Cody Gitzen this weekend, as he held off the hard charge of Kory Keylon, Eric Goodson and Evan Walker to pull off two second place finishes in the Schoolboy class and brought home the Youth 12-16 overall, his first overall for the season. This confidence will help Gitzen settle in and find the pace of the top runners even more quickly next weekend.
Vince Devane (above), the undefeated vet rider from Plant City, FL, was back at Dade City this weekend to defend his perfect series points lead. There is nothing stopping this guy and with Earl May out of the picture it seemed as though Vince had everything under control and no pressure from the back of the pack. Plus 30 and Plus 35 went to the number #8 of Devane.
