This past weekend Sara Price made her pro debut and turned a few heads in the process. The young rider came out on fire running up front for the entirety of moto number one. Moto two showed the damage control she possesses after a rough first lap. She would finish fifth overall in her first ever pro race. We caught up with he mid week to see how she was feeling.

Let’s start with how the pro debut went at Glen Helen?

It went well, you know? Of course I was nervous but I wanted to get it out of the way. I knew I would do decent if I relaxed a little bit and did my deal out there.

How cool was it running up front like that in the first moto?

PRICE

It was good, I had some difficulties with the hot lap so I didn’t even get a chance to take my hot lap so it was going from cold turkey right to race mode. I got a good start and I was out front for a while and I was pumped. I kept the fighter in me and finished a solid second.

What happened in the second moto?

I got a decent start in the second moto along with Patterson, Fiolek, and the other top woman. Going into the sand section Patterson kind of came in and bumped me off the track and I got stuck getting back on the track and I kept getting hit trying to get back on but saved it every time. I got going finally and crashed the next corner.

What are your plans for this season?

Im going to be doing every round of WMA along with X-Games and any other pro nationals I’ll get the chance to race.

Will you be racing Loretta’s?

Yes, I will be there.

Do you think you have the speed to run up front all season?

Yeah, definitely I think I have the speed to be a contender for the title and I hope I end up with a solid podium. This is my learning year this year and that’s all I’m looking for. The next I’m going to run it in there for first.

Did you see any sort of weakness from Ashley Fiolek in that first moto that you can go after?

Oh, yeah, definitely. I make a lot of mistakes where Ashley is a really smooth rider. I’m kind of more of an aggressive rider to where I kind of overpower coming into a corner and get on the breaks to hard and stand up, and there is a half a second right there. As long as I can smooth out a bit I think I got it.

After Ashley got the factory ride, do you think that has become a common goal amongst female riders?

Yeah definitely, that’s one of my goals for the next couple years is to hopefully get a factory ride and I think the woman are their way to getting the right exposure and the right support.

Where do you see woman’s motocross going from here?

I’m hoping we stay on the same day as the men and hopefully we get our own class in supercross. Hopefully we can make a good living at this just like the men do.

We know Glen Helen is your favorite track, how were the conditions on Saturday?

It was definitely not what I’m used to on a Glen Helen track. It was Glen Helen but not the Glen Helen track I’m used to. The pro nationals are way different, the track gets beat up, and the lines are tremendously different. Every inside and outside line were the roughest where usually it’s just the inside and middle that’s the roughest. I had to learn that and figure that out a little bit.

Are you excited to be running all these new tracks?

Oh yeah, so excited. I’m ready to race and just get out there and show my stuff.

Have you ever been on any of the other National tracks?

I have been on Steel City and Washougal but I don’t think were running Washougal.

That’s about all I have ridden.

How do you feel about the new Saturday schedule?

I’m pumped on it! The woman get to open up a lot of races and even in Colorado the woman are the last race at 11:00 PM so I’m kind of anxious to see how that works out.

Hangtown this weekend… you going to win?

Hopefully, that’s what I’m going for!

Have you ever raced Hangtown?

Yeah a couple times and it’s a pretty fun track.

How many throw away’s did you have when taking your hard card picture?

Not too many. (Laughs) Actually I think my mom sent one in that a photographer did a while back and it was touched up so my eyes are not even the right color.
