Running his new number: 123, (1+2+3=6) we had a brief chat with Tommy Searle while he was out testing at Glen Helen.
1. What do you think about the conditions of the track at the moment?
It's the same most Thursday's and I've been coming a lot of Thursday's so the track's the same, not the best condition. I guess it's good, at least we're riding the track we're going to race, so that's a plus.
2. Is there anything you hope they do to the track in the weeks before the national?
A lot I hope. I don't know, a lot of people have been telling me it's different on race day but I hope they rip it, water it, make it good fun, that's the main thing. As long as it's not dry and dusty like this it'll provide good racing.
3. How are you preparations going?
Yeah, everything's going really well, me, my trainer and the team are working really hard and I think it's paying off but we'll see in a couple of weeks.
4. There were rumours earlier in the year that you were going to do the 3 GPs to warm up, what happened there?
Yeah, I was up until like two weeks before, they said they wanted me to go over and then the next I heard, with all the sponsors and different trainers, they said no, don't go over, so I didn't end up doing them. Maybe it was a good thing, I think it was because I got to ride this track and I think learning to race those races to get ready for the nationals, well it's a totally different to what it's like out here so it's not a bad thing missing those races.
5. But you did ride the 4-stroke national a couple of weeks ago, how did that go for you?
It was good, I'm glad I done it but it didn't really go the way I'd hoped, I pumped up and stuff as I haven't raced in so long. But I'm definitely really happy I did it as it got one race out of the way and hopefully I'll do a couple more before the main race and then I'll be ready.
6. How do you feel you measure up against the opposition, you've raced Rattray and Pourcel before, but not against any of the others?
I don't know really. I know I have been working hard so we'll see in just over a week how I stack up, but I'm feeling good and hopefully I'll have some good races.
