Powered Up!
Suzuki’s engineers have carefully developed the RM-Z450’s powerful 449cm3, DOHC,
4-valve engine to increase power throughout the rev range. Always known for its
incredible midrange grunt, the 2010 RM-Z450 also has arm-stretching high-rpm power. A
combination of revised cam profiles and reworked cylinder-head porting give the
RM-Z450 amazing idle-to-redline thrust. An improved camchain tensioner provides more
consistent performance. Also a modified throttle linkage makes the low-speed response
more progressive. How’s that? More power and better manners.
 
 
 
Fuel Injection, Pioneered and Improved
For 2010, the RM-Z450’s electronic fuel injection is improved with a reversed throttle
valve movement. Such a simple alteration pays handsomely: The fine fuel-air mist from
the 12-hole fuel injector is directed away from the throttle valve for a more uniform
mixture producing increased power and enhanced throttle response.
 
 
 
 
Chassis Dynamic
Everywhere you look, the RM-Z450’s twin-spar aluminum alloy frame has received detail
improvements to optimize rigidity balance. It starts with the head stock, which is now a
two-piece design that’s 9mm taller than before. Further back, the sections at the rear of
the frame, which are made up of extruded and cast members, are now wider for
increased rigidity. More strength comes from a wider upper frame bridge beneath the
saddle, while material wall thickness was strategically designed to save weight.
 
 
High-Quality Showa Suspension
The RM-Z450 employs race-bred, state-of-the-art Showa suspension front and rear. For
2010, both ends of the bike are given suitably revised spring and damping rates—the
new rates work together with the chassis’ optimized rigidity balance to improve handling.
 47mm inverted forks provide optimum wheel travel and can be adjusted for compression
as well as rebound damping for maximum rider adjustability. A Showa piggyback
reservoir rear shock offers both high- and low-speed compression damping adjustment
along with rebound damping and spring preload adjustments. Working through Suzuki’s
superlative rising-rate linkage system—now with revised link-bearing tolerances for
precise handling performance—the shock provides 310mm of wheel travel delivering
maximum traction.

goes beyond the champagne. For the 2010 RM-Z250, Suzuki applied lessons learned on

Suzuki racing technology is everywhere you look: advanced Suzuki fuel injection is fitted
for the first time on a four-stroke 250cm3 Suzuki motocross machine. Further engine
modifications boost peak power without giving up any of the low-end or midrange that
has made the RM-Z250 the choice of top riders everywhere. Chassis updates improve
handling with key suspension upgrades making the new RM-Z250 the perfect weapon
for motocross racers worldwide. And there’s the eye-catching slim, aggressive styling

Fuel Injection
Derived from the pacesetting RM-Z450’s superlative system, the RM-Z250’s battery-less
injection features a 43mm throttle body with progressive throttle linkage, a 16-bit
computer and unique capacitor-assisted starting system. A durable, lightweight
magneto-generator powers the fuel injection after starting. Because all engine systems
are related in performance, a new muffler is fitted to optimize the benefits of fuel
injection. 
 
 
Power at the Top
Engine modifications for the RM-Z250 maintain its impressive low-to-midrange power
but add a thrilling high-rpm rush to the mix—precisely what expert-level riders want in a
potent 4-stroke racing engine. Revised cam timing works in conjunction with updated
intake ports to boost power and torque at the top of the power band. A new, stronger
connecting rod and mirror finishing permits maximum engine speed increased to a
stunning 13,500 rpm. Crankshaft modifications similar in spec to the
championship-winning RM-Z450 increase rigidity and strength. The 249cm3 engine
continues to use a DOHC, 4-valve head design with lightweight titanium valves riding in
an advanced pent-roof cylinder head and semi-dry-sump lubrication system reduces
internal friction. With a top-end rush like no other, the RM-Z250’s engine has to be
experienced to be believed.
 
 
 
Chassis Updates
In the search for handling perfection, the RM-Z250’s twin-spar aluminum alloy frame has
been redesigned with several key components to optimize rigidity balance and improve
traction at high speed. The lower frame tube has thicker walls, 3.0mm versus 2.5mm,
while the side rails are slightly shallower. Connecting the 19-inch rear wheel and the
lightweight chassis is a new swingarm with an improved center brace for increased
rigidity that also more concentrates its mass for enhanced suspension action and greater
traction. To prove that Suzuki understands the importance of details, new footrest
brackets are designed to prevent mud clogging.
 
 
High-Performance Suspension, Updated
Thoroughly revised spring and damping rates inside the inverted Showa 47mm fork and
piggyback single shock result in improved handling for a wide range of riders. Carefully
chosen modifications improve traction and rider confidence at high speed without
sacrificing the RM-Z’s legendary quick-turning ability. Modifications to the rear
suspension linkage that reduce thrust backlash also improve traction and make for more
consistent performance.
 
 
Radiator Louvers
Improved radiator louvers direct more cooling air to the twin side-mounted aluminum
alloy radiators for lower engine temperatures. They are joined to the outer bodywork for
increased strength without adding weight.
 
 
Color Coded
For 2010, the RM-Z250’s number plates have a black background to conform to rules for
competition numbers. It’s one less thing to worry about so racers can concentrate on

2010 Suzuki RMX450Z



Heart of a champion, a taste for adventure.
 
Racing improves the breed; Suzuki has proven that time and time again. Now it’s time to
rewrite the rules for the serious off-road rider. Introducing the 2010 Suzuki RMX450Z. 
 
Descended from the Championship winning RM-Z450, the first motocross bike to offer
high-performance Suzuki fuel injection, the RMX450Z is a serious off-road bike for
serious trail riders. Its powerful and torquey 449cm3, liquid-cooled, four-stroke engine
shares all core technology with Suzuki’s winning open-class motocrosser. Its frame,
suspension and bodywork are all nearly identical to the RM-Z450’s—maintaining that
model’s slim, aggressive styling. Only changes to make the RMX450Z a superior trail
machine have been made—maximum performance – no compromises.
 
That’s like taking your hard-core motocross machine out onto the trail.
 
Only better. Much better.
 
Fuel Injection
Suzuki pioneered fuel injection for motocrossers, and the RMX450Z shares all key
technologies with the stunning RM-Z450. Fuel injection improves fuel efficiency, throttle
response and reduces emissions, allowing the RMX450Z to be “green sticker” eligible in
the state of California. On every trail in the world, the RMX450Z’s fuel injection provides
unmatched smoothness of power delivery and trail-ready reliability thanks to a KEIHIN
throttle body with progressive linkage. This advanced fuel injection system also
eliminates the need for re-jetting at higher elevations. To best suit the RMX450Z to life
on the trail, the airbox features a hinged lid for quick air-filter maintenance and better
protection from dust. Suzuki’s vast experience with motorcycle fuel injection both on and
off-road help make this among the best systems available. 
 
Electric Start
The trail is no place to wear yourself out kick-starting a bike, so the RMX450Z comes
with an electric starter, energized by a compact battery centrally located to reduce its
influence on weight distribution and balance of the bike. To charge the battery and power
the RMX450Z’s lights, a larger magneto-generator is fitted. It’s a win-win situation.
 
Engine & Transmission
Suzuki has made minimal modifications to the all-conquering RM-Z450’s potent
four-valve, DOHC engine for the RMX450Z. This lightweight engine now features a
modified inlet tract along with revised cam profiles to increase low and mid-rpm power.
Wider gear ratios in the 5-speed constant-mesh transmission that work with revised
primary and final-drive ratios are ideally suited for a broad range of conditions, from
scaling steep trails to high-speed open-terrain riding.
The addition of a coolant reservoir tank increases on-trail reliability, while a relocated
filler cap improves access. Because the trail can be a rocky place, a new engine
protector plate is fitted. No stone was left unturned.
 
State of the Art Chassis
Suzuki’s light and effective aluminum alloy twin-spar frame construction is used in the
RMX450Z, employing both cast and extruded sections for the utmost benefits of both:
low weight, high rigidity, and high durability. The RMX450Z’s aluminum alloy swingarm is
derived from the RM-Z450’s to maintain ideal balance, while the rear suspension linkage
benefits from reduced free play. Its geometry combines the RM series’ renowned
turning-on-rails abilities with optimized handling performance that all serious trail riders
want.
 
World Class Suspension
Derived from the RM-Z450, the RMX450Z’s trail ready suspension features the same
phenomenal action as the race bike. The RMX450Z suspension utilizes high
performance rebound and compression damping adjustable Showa forks combined with
a Showa piggyback reservoir style rear shock featuring two-way adjustable compression
damping with adjustable rebound damping and preload adjustments. Spring rates have
been optimized for off-road riding. Every aspect of the RMX450Z’s performance
envelope has been carefully considered for serious off-road riding without compromising
a millimeter of quality.
 
Superior Ergonomics
Sit on an RM-Z450. Now go sit on the new RMX450Z. Feels just about the same, right?
That’s right. With an ideal riding position resulting from the motocross-developed seat,
slim bodywork and low-profile aluminum alloy fuel tank, the RMX450Z allows the rider to
concentrate on the terrain. A comfortable rider is a fast rider.
 
Instruments You Need
A durable, ultra-compact enclosure houses a full-function instrument cluster on the
RMX450Z—and can be configured for two modes, standard and sport. The sport mode
simplifies the display so the rider can concentrate on terrain; it shows the timer,
tripmeter, average speed and tire-diameter correction. In the standard mode, the display
also shows speed, time, two trip lengths, and voltage. An integrated tire diameter
calculator allows precise fine tuning for different tires to ensure accuracy of the speed
and distance displays. The RMX450Z also features a low fuel level warning light for
confident off-road riding anywhere you go.
