To say that Dean Wilson is on another level right now would be an understatement. He hasn’t won everything this year, but almost has. This kid is primed and ready for the big time. Don’t let his laid back attitude fool you, he works as hard as anyone and is determined to make his name known in the big leagues following Loretta’s. But with a Lites class already so deep in talent, will there be room for another hot shoe from the amateur ranks hoping to break into the limelight? You bet there will be. If he keeps it up, Dean will be moving into his debut race at Unadilla with as much hype as anyone, and deservingly so. In our opinion, it will be the influx of this younger generation that will push those less willing to the sidelines. But let’s not jump on the pro train too soon; Dean still has a handful of amateur nationals to take on before he gets to sit at the adult table. Mammoth, Ponca and Loretta’s wait on the horizon over the next few months, and if his past results are any indication (and we think they are) you can expect to see a lot more title trophies on Dean’s mantle before all is said and done.
Dean, you dominated the 250 and 450 pro classes at World Mini. You are one of the most highly talked about A riders this year. How does it feel to be the top guy this year?
It feels great to be one of the top A riders! This is why I work hard; to win, and it’s a great feeling when everything just clicks
How has this winning streak boosted your confidence for the rest of the season?
It boosted it a little bit, but I always knew I could win. I know I’m one of the fastest guys, I just needed everything to go smoothly, and it did in Vegas, and I came out with 4 titles.
A lot of people have been talking about you and Barcia battling this year, if he would’ve still been in the A class. Do you feel that you would have had some mojo for Justin Barcia this year?
Well, I beat him the last moto at Loretta’s last year, but he is going fast right now, and I honestly don’t know because I haven’t raced him since Loretta’s. I was looking forward to racing him at Mini Os back in October, but I broke my femur, so that didn’t happen.
There are a lot of A riders out there that are capable of winning races, or even titles. What are you going to do to make sure that you are the guy winning?
I'm going to keep doing what I’m doing, and that’s working hard on getting faster!
How are Dean Wilson’s skills on the Supercross track? Have you been doing any sort of Supercross riding?
I think my supercross skills are pretty good. I grew up racing arena cross in
You seem to be the most aggressive, dedicated, and hard working guy in the A class this year. Do you feel that you need to win as many titles as possible to ensure yourself of a ride for you professional career?
Well, I just feel that if I want this to be my career, it’s all going to come down to this year because the only way to pick up a good ride is to win, and to have a good career you have to be on a good team. That’s the way I look at it.
How has being on the Canidae/Motosport/Xtreme Team Green helped you become the champion that we all know today?
Canidae Motorsport Xtreme Team Green is awesome! I really don’t think I could do it without them. My bikes are so good this year, my mechanic Ed has got them running so awesome and my teammates are really cool. I think that being on a team where everybody gets along helps a lot, and I’m happy to be part of the team.
There are some big career decisions that you will have to make in the near future. What are your plans for the rest of the 2009 season?
My plan for the rest of the year is to do some Loretta Lynn Qualifiers and race Ponca and Loretta’s…. and hopefully race the last three or four outdoors.
Do you already have any signed contracts that will lead you into the last few rounds of the outdoors?
No Contracts yet, so hopefully I keep doing well and maybe pick a good one up!
Who would you like to thank for helping you out?
I would like to thank my mechanic Ed and my trainer Sam, my Parents, Bobby Hewitt, Jammi, James, and Vallarie at Thor, James and everyone at Pro Circuit, and of course CANIDAE MOTORSPORT XTREME TEAM GREEN, MONSTER, SCOTT, ALPINESTARS, and SKULL CANDY... thanks a lot!
