From North Carolina w/ Snow

P7070049

This past weekend four of my buddies and I decided to load up the truck and take off for Boone, NC to shred the slopes of Sugar Mountain.  So for my weekly blog I decided to give the Vurb Community a run down of all the action.

Editors Note:  There was supposed to be pictures and videos of everything but both my camera and video camera were not working.  Sorry you will just have to use your imagination.

P7050009Day 1:  The Trip

10:00a.m.  The anticipation of the weekend is running through everyone’s veins as we load up the truck.  After stuffing five snowboards, 6 pair of boots and 13 bags into the back of the truck, we crank up some Rage and hit the road for the ultimate bachelors weekend.

12:30p.m.  As the beautiful beaches of Charleston, SC become a mere blur in the rear view and the mountains of North Carolina on the horizon we decided to stop for some grub.  After going back in forth between Subway and Chick-Fil-A, we finally decided on the healthier choice of Subway.

1:00p.m.  After downing twelve inches of a delicious turkey sub were back on the road, and Sam is back on the phone.  Before I go into detail on this matter I will give you a little background.  You see my buddy Sam and his girlfriend are like John Daly and a case of beer never to far away from each other, even though she lives in New York.  So that means he must talk to her at least five hundred times a day.  Ok now that you have a little background into the situation at hand, me and the rest of the crew decided to start timing how long he is on the phone for.  Stay tuned for the results.

2:00p.m.  Time in the car:  4hrs

Time Sam spent on the phone with his girlfriend:  2 ½ hrs

3:00p.m.  Car, car, car, truck, really big truck, car.  I’m starting to get really bored.

5:00p.m.  After what seemed like a twelve-hour car ride we have finally arrived at Sugar Mountain.  Before we hit the slopes we make a quick pit stop at the local board P7070043shop, so that I could pick up some screws for my bindings.  Walking into the store we see that all DC wear was 50% off, at the time I had no idea that seeing this sign would bring me so much laughter later.    After paying for my screws I saw that my buddies Sam and Adam had bought some new pants, so I figured that I would check out what they had.  While I didn’t find anything that matched my budget, I did happen to notice that the pants Sam bought looked awfully similar to the ones on the girls rack.  So like any good journalist I decided to dig a little deeper into this matter.  And to my surprise Sam had just purchased a brand new pair of GIRL snowboarding pants.   After laughing for at least an hour, we decided to ask if he knew they were girl pants, to which he responded they were the only ones that fit me, which made the situation even worse for him.

7:00p.m.  Temp:  -2”F   After deciding that dinner would take to long we went directly to slopes to enjoy some night boarding.  A couple of warm-up runs later we decided to hit the blue slopes at the top of the mountain.  This is where my night took a turn for the worse.  You see Sam and his twin brother Jon grew up in upstate New York where they grew up snowboarding, our other buddy TJ grew up in Michigan were he snowboarded since a young in and Adam while he is not great at any one thing, he seems to be good at just about everything, and then there’s me who has only been snowboarding six times and the last time was two years ago, so to say I was the scrub of the group was an understatement.  But I decided I was decent enough to at least get down the blues without killing myself, wow was I wrong.

8:30p.m.  After getting ran over twice, somehow going back up to the top of the mountain, all while bleeding from my legs I finally found my way to the bottom of the mountain.  As I walked into the snack shop I was greeted by “Hey are you all right,” followed by an hour of laughter after I had told them what happened.

11:00p.m.  Finally arriving back at the glorious and beautiful Fairfield Inn we decided to get some much needed beauty rest for the next day ahead.

P7060028Day 2:  Back In the Saddle Again

9:00a.m.  Waking up to the smell of five guys in a hotel room and the scent of Fairfield Inn coffee I knew that today was going to be a good day.  After receiving five voicemails from Brent and Wes aka Bones, the night before about how bad they were going to smoke me on the slopes, I figured I would give them a call to see where they were.  A few unanswered calls later I was getting worried that they were to scared to come and get them some on the mountaintop.

9:30a.m.  After a quick breakfast, while heading to the slopes I decided I would give them one last call.  Getting a groggy “what up goon,” from Wes I knew that those two girls had gotten so scared the night before that they couldn’t sleep and “accidentally” overslept.

10:a.m.  Temp: 22”F   Getting to the slopes we were gracious to be greeted by a little warmer weather and not to many people.

Time on Trip:  24hrs

Time Sam on the phone w/ G-friend:  15 ½ hrs

11:00a.m. Gnarly crash I think I left my butt somewhere back in the middle of the slope.

12:00p.m.  After grubbing down on some delicious hamburgers we decide to hit up the slopes for a couple more runs.  To our dismay while we were eating half of the entire southeast decided to come skiing.

3:00p.m.  After almost taking out three little girls and there mom, who were just sitting in the middle of the slope, we decided to pack it in for the day and make the hour and a half drive to Lake Lure, NC where TJ’s girlfriends dad had a place.

6:00p.m.  Eating steaks, drinking beer and watching Travis Pastrana’s 199 Lives, what more could five guys ask for.

11:00p.m.  Bruised, Broken and a little Buzzed we decided to crash for the night.

Day 3:  Home Sweet Home

9:00a.m.  After an old man breakfast of coffee and Advil we decide to hit the road.

10:00a.m   Time on Trip:  48hrs

Time Sam on phone w/ G-friend:  25 ½ hrs

11:00a.m.  The coffee and Advil are starting to wear off so we decided to stop at a local mom and pap breakfast joint for some much-needed grub.  After eating the biggest pancakes I have ever seen in my life, I swear these things were 3ft wide and 2inches thick, we are back on the road.

12:00p.m.  An hour later regretting ever eating those pancakes we have to make an emergency pit stop.

2:00p.m.  Everyone is tired so the ride feels like watching a WNBA game, BORING!!!!!

5:00:  Arriving home 4 hours later, exhausted, bruised and blooded I look back and think to myself what was this all worth, nothing.  EVERTHING.
