Delegating is one aspect of business that I have yet to conquer. While I’m getting better at perfecting the art of passing off work in order to take on more work, I’m still no Andrew Campo.
In order to grow you have to surround yourself with competent, talented people. You then have to give them work that brings out their true talent. For instance, I wouldn’t give our art director a feature story idea and tell him to run with it, nor would I give one of our reporters the task of designing a new sticker sheet. You have to be able to depend on those around you and you have to be able to see where their true talent lies.
The problem I’ve had over the last few weeks is letting go. You see, when Vurb started we were forced to do everything ourselves. If we didn’t know how to do something we learned, and we learned fast. I remember sitting in Wes’ room for hours trying to figure out photoshop and Illustrator so that we could design event banners for the nationals. There was no choice because there was no one else around to do it. We had to figure it out ourselves.
Over the last few months we’ve began to take on more and more work, which ultimately means I’ve spent more time managing the influx of creative content than I have actually creating it. And to be honest, I like creating it a lot more. But sacrifices have to be made and sometimes you find yourself doing things for the better of the overall picture.
If we are lucky, we will continue to grow, and if we continue to grow then we will have to continue to delegate responsibilities. I guess when I really look at it it’s a small price to pay to be able to do what you love.

now that you are done with this Blog, please get with Clint and have him design me some new graphics for Angel Fire, after that contact Mitch Elson and confirm that he will be at Angel Fire taking photos of me on the podium, and after you talk with Mitch go ahead and start the intro to my 2,500 word interview, and then take yourself an hour break for lunch... keep up the good work!!! #184
