Redneck to Renown

This will be blog numero uno for me and before we go too far here is a little background info on myself. I’m from Maine, I’m a northern redneck, I film motocross. Ok, on we go…

This weekend, while everyone was preparing for round one of the 2009 Lucas Oil Motocross Championship, I was announcing a “Motorcycle Rodeo.” A motorcycle rodeo is basically a course set up by cones within a parking lot that tests the balance skills a motorcycle rider has. The course includes a “plank”; a 50 or so foot 2 by 4 that has to be negotiated, followed by a figure 8, and many twisty turns that make for a backwoods good time. Basically, welcome to redneck heaven.

Through all of the leather jackets and nappy looking mullets I found some humor in the scenery change that I will be experiencing in the next two weeks. I will go from watching sweaty middle aged men battling for a gift certificate and the right to have their name printed on a sweet plaque that will hang on the local dealerships wall, to one of the biggest shows in motorsports. Glen Helen has been on everyone’s mind and for good reason. The nationals go national for real, with a number of top over sea’s riders ready to take to the line. All the hype in the world surrounds a couple of top amateurs moving up as Dungy tries to show the world he means business and follow up the SX title with an MX. Not to mention a wide open spot for a 450 Championship that could go to just about anyone! Come May 23 I will find myself in the middle of a high repute, worldwide race, truly going from Redneck, to Renown in just two weeks.
