I received a call a few weeks ago from some family friends asking me if I wanted to go sky diving. I entertained the idea, but after costing the whole thing out, quickly found out that it just wasn't in the cards for me at the time. My mom happened to overhear the conversation and said that she would like to go "watch" them jump. And originally, I truly think that was her sole intention...to watch. However, I received another call from my mom yesterday morning at around 10:30 that totally threw me for a loop. "Should I do it?" she yelled through the phone. I knew exactly what she was talking about and I quickly replied "Go for it! Why not?" She then hung up the phone and, to be honest, I thought she would chicken out. Well, I was wrong. At 58 years old, my mom jumped out of a plane at 14,000 feet yesterday afternoon. How cool is that? She has done some amazing things in her life, but in my eyes this might be the most amazing things she's ever accomplished. She will probably kill me for saying this, but she is the only skydiving grandma I know.
When I asked her what made her decide to do it she said that she wanted us - her four sons- to be able to look back on this when we were faced with a tough situation and say, "if my mom can jump out of a plan at 58, I can do anything." Pretty cool, huh? Needless to say I've already begun looking up skydiving websites. I can't let her hold this one over my head forever.
Good job, mom. Keep getting shorter and keep living life on the edge.
